We were in town for my daughter's soccer tournament in October and this restaurant was wonderful! The food was fresh, the portions sizes are generous and leave you feeling full but not weighed down. Several menu options are clearly designated gluten free on the menu and this restaurant even offers large family mealoptions as well. I just wish we had one near Mason, Ohio.
We were in town for my daughter's soccer tournament in The spring and this restaurant was wonderful! Would think they'd be GF/ Celiac friendly based on GF menu and options but twice they have mistakenly included items with Gluten as sides to a GF meal. And both times for my 7 year old son. Not worth going there to have to inspect every detail...and still be worried about it. Dangerous place for a Celiac.
DO NOT TRUST ZOES. I used to eat there all the time, but after multiple disappointments, I realized that Zoes is not safe for someone with Celiac or any other gluten sensitivity/allergy. Two examples come to mind: I ordered a "gluten-free" Greek salad, and I stressed that I had Celiac disease and explained what it was and how they had to prepare my food, but my salad was brought out with pita bread on it. Another time, the last time I went there, I mentioned to the woman taking my order that I had celiac, and I ordered the rice pilaf. After going to Zoes for MONTHS and ordering gluten-free and stressing that I had a condition, the woman that day was the first person to tell me, including the many managers that I spoke to, that the rice pilaf is NOT gluten-free. No wonder I got sick every time I went there! I just assumed that the spices on their kabobs were too intense for me. I am very disappointed in this chain, and I will never eat there again, nor will I ever suggest it to anyone with dietary restrictions.
Nice chicken kabobs with rice and salad. They do not make their bread onsite, which is good news for the GF set.
Lots of GF options and the menu is clearly labled. Told them I had Celiac's and the manager made sure that the kitchen staff changed their gloves before making my meal. They also suggested ways to order some of their items that aren't labled GF so that I could enjoy them if I wanted to try those items. Not everything can be made GF but they try their best to do what they can. Very friendly and accommodating staff.
Few but solid GF options. Mediterranean Chicken, Chicken Marinara, hummus (no pita -- cucumbers and peppers instead), and braised white beans. We eat here regularly, and my kids actually love it (not always easy finding healthy options for young kids). Not going to blow you away but solid, healthy, clean, and reasonably priced. Servers are not always knowledgable though. There's some sort of low-calorie menu that lists the items that can be made GF (servers are not always aware -- there is high turnover), and you have to be vigilant and be sure to specify and double-check they got your order right.
My mom is highly gluten sensitive and orders the chicken salad and fruit plate off of the gluten free menu all the time. Once she was served bread as a side to her dish so we sent it back and they prepared another one. She's never had any issues besides that or had a reaction.
Mediterranean - Greek food that is always good. I get the salmon kabobs and my boyfriend gets the chicken kabobs. Both meals come gluten free without the pita. Staff at many locations I have been to friendly and knowledgeable on gluten free issues. I would say this is a very safe bet for a meal that isn't contaminated. You will also enjoy their hummus which is awesome!
It may take a little longer to explain and to get your food depending who is staffing the kitchen but they will change gloves and dish up some veggies instead of pita for your hummus. Can't see the kitchen so not totally sure its safe for celiac but I haven't gotten sick there myself... That said I always talk to them and make sure the pita can't touch my plate. They've told me the grill is safe and I can recommend the kabobs highly. They have a gf quinoa tabboleh too.
Great selection of gf Mediterranean!
Very yummy! Had the shrimp kabobs but had to tell them gluten free and even then the girl asked if the rice was good (according to gluten free menu-it's not) so the staff was not very knowledgable but I ended up getting the white beans and side salad which were both delicious.
Waco, TX - NOT SAFE for those who MUST avoid gluten. My daughter ordered the protein power plate (a gluten free entree and gf side). I discussed her gluten intolerance with the worker who took our order, he said something to the kitchen personnel. However, she is VERY sick. I think the workers who helped us today did the best they could, so there must be severe cross-contamination in the kitchen or ingredients with hidden sources of gluten. I can not find an ingredients list only nutritional information. If you CAN NOT consume gluten, DO NOT go to the Zoe's kitchen in Waco, TX. Very disappointing and scary as they have so many items boldly labeled gluten free.
I really like their food but I had pasta salad on my plate twice. I asked that they make me a new plate. I stressed my allergy and again said to make me a new plate. They brought it out and I trusted them. That was a big mistake as a few bites in, I found pasta noodles and I had a stomach ache before I left. I asked to speak the manager. He said they made me a new plate. I moved my potato salad and showed him the pasta salad. He went and made me a new one. I really want to trust them but I've been burned twice here and once in Winston.
Make sure you tell them how serious it is- I was unsure since the woman taking my order didn't seem concerned but she told me the general manager was in the kitchen (working the expo and reviewing all orders before they came out). I've heard mixed reviews about Zoe's and do think it depends on the staff/location. That being said I am very sensitive and did not get sick Love that they have plenty of options for gluten free/dairy free people. Also love that they don't charge for substituting sides
They have messed up before by putting pita bread on my meal, so i had to drive all the way back (I got it to go on my short lunch break) to get a fresh meal. That meal was fine. The second time I ordered from here, everything LOOKED fine, but I got sick a few hours later. I would be wary.
My work has frequent catered lunches from Zoe's and the chicken kebabs, rice pilaf and Greek salad are fantastic. I have called to speak with the chef and he was knowledgeable and friendly. The beef kebabs are not GF. As a celiac, I feel safe eating their food.
