This used to be my favorite restaurant in the area, but all of a sudden it's no longer Celiac-safe. The fryer is now contaminated, and they've completely redone the menu with now only 1 dish marked GF and the staff will readily tell you there's likely to be contamination. Very disappointing, I used to rave about their breakfast poutine. Unfortunately I can no longer recommend New Day to anybody who seriously needs to avoid gluten.

This is a hidden gem! Many GF items on the menu, a GF bakery case. I ordered a turkey panini and haven’t tasted anything as good since I went GF 8 years ago. Will definitely return

I was recommended this place by someone local as a good gf option but unfortunately we might have caught them on a bad day. I explained to our waiter that I had celiac and food can’t share prep space with any gluten containing foods. He said they could do gf bread for the sandwiches but seemed clueless about celiac. My sandwich came out on regular panini bread and was apparently not even entered as gf or flagged for an allergy. The waitress who brought our food out was kind and knowledgable - she said that it was busy and it was not actually possible for them to offer a clean grill space. She said they could remake the sandwich on gf bread in a separate pan. The portion that eventually came out was large and tasted good, but I do not feel confident that all the staff are sensitive to the needs of celiac and cross contamination. Gluten eating husband said biscuits and gravy were not great. Sadly a disappointing experience.

Edited at top with second visit several weeks later:
I was mildly glutened by the champagne cake. In addition, the customer service dropped off precipitously, and the presences of gfree menu items had been cut down to two. The fryer is no longer safe, either, so no more poutine!—I no longer felt welcomed or safe as someone with celiac disease. I’m not sure if staffing changes, or if they gave up on truly offering gluten free food, but I was deeply disappointed.
Shared kitchen with excellent cross contamination prevention. I had delicious gluten free vegan breakfast poutine, an orange mocha made with hemp milk, and a golden beet based fresh juice. Everything was delicious and I had no problem. I ordered one of each of their gluten free pastries to take home for my family.
Their prices are very reasonable for the quality!
Pastry review after nibbling on a corner of each variety:
Cakes are moist and delicious.
Brownies are solid/decent.
Coffee cakes are kinda tart-like and I think they would be great with coffee.
Muffin tops are terrible—dry and tasteless.

Lots of gf options on menu, friendly staff willing to answer questions. I had the gf mac-n-cheese and it was good (but a bit dry). Amazing selection of juices. They have a lot of baked goods, about half were gf. Server politely explained that they don't have a dedicated area to bake the gf items, but they bake those on separate days than the gluten ones and it's all done in house, and they thoroughly clean in between. So, while they can't say it's absolutely safe, it seems like they take excellent precautions. That being said, the slice of cake I had was just okay. Would definitely go here again, though as overall it was tasty, had some good options on menu and is in a cute setting in the heart of downtown.

Went for lunch, lots of gluten free options, including baked goods. The GF espresso cake was amazing! I ordered a turkey panini with potato rounds and my husband got the brisket bacon Mac and cheese which was also gluten free. Everything tasted great! Our waitress could have been a little more educated as she questions whether a potatoes were gluten, so that was concerning.

We stopped by on our way through Port Angeles to pick up a coffee, smoothie, and pastry. The pastries we tried were not very good and we did not finish them. The smoothie and coffee were both exceptional.
When ordering coffee, I asked what kind of oat milk they used (since some use gf oats and others do not). One person asked why and said that the entire coffee bar was gluten free, without answering my question. Luckily, another person was working and went and got the oat milk for me – they were using a brand that does not have any gf certification or promises. I ended up doing an iced latte with a different milk to avoid cross contamination from the steamer.
The service was mixed – one person was very helpful, the other person seemed annoyed at answering questions and gave a different pastry than ordered. The experience was fine, but we probably wouldn't return.

Had several designated items on menu that were gluten free (and a few others that allowed for gluten free substitution). Staff noted that prep separation in kitchen was challenging. Food was very good; no post lunch digestive problems. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would happily go back.

Had a very different experience than the other comments - the food was amazing and there were tons of vegan and GF options. I went for breakfast so I can’t speak for the lunch menu, but there seem to be a ton of GF options on both. The GF pastries are great.

Great local breakfast place. I got a potatoe skillet and had no issues (I have a gluten sensitivity). The food was great and I really liked the chai latte and an immunity juice shot. I also got two gluten free desserts to go that were delicious.

Was immediately told they have a lot of new staff and they are not training safe food handling to accommodate allergies or celiac. Staff suggested it would not be safe to eat here anymore.

They said they can’t guarantee gluten free and lunch isn’t served until noon. They charge well over $20 for one burger and if it can’t be celiac safe there is no point in eating here.

Dedicated gluten free seperate facility! Amazing food and gf baked goods too!

Fresh generous salads. Gluten free rolls for burgers/sandwiches

Although we had been assured that we would find a yummy and safe meal from the previous reviews, it ended up not working out. I emphasized that I have Celiac. I ordered a beef brisket panini that I had been assured was made in a dedicated gf panini maker as well as the chips with my Nima sensor, which let me know gluten was found and I was out of luck for lunch. Be careful about getting food here if you have Celiac. It was pretty slow when we went too which usually means more diligence.
No
Delicious food. They seemed extremely knowledgeable and they noted my meal as celiac and said they prepared it separately. I had the Salmon burger with a gluten free bun and sweet potato chips —and it was delicious!
So delicious and lots of GF options including smoothies, sandwiches, and burgers.
Yes
Many GF options & celiac noted on the ticket.
Great burger, great attention to detail. Celiac noted on receipt.
Yes
Great choices and yummy, especially dessert. Staff knew the ingredients well and looked up what they weren't certain about. Looking forward to going back because we both want to try the vegan hash!
Yes
Great food and aware of celiac and the needs for a separate toaster/no cross contamination. Sad I was only able to go here once and wish I had one in my town. Have gluten free bread, waffles etc. big omelets and creative smoothies
Yes
Absolutely lovely! The staff were all friendly, helpful, and well informed about not only gluten free options but also cross contamination issues and celiac disease as well! I was so impressed and the food was delicious! I was especially excited to have the homemade chips (a dedicated fryer!) and their homemade dessert (a dedicated prep area!). I would certainly go again!
Amazing sandwitches, soups and fries. Loved the place so much we went 3 times in 4 days!
Yes
Vary delicious and celiac safe.😋

GF Salted Caramel lush pie!

We stopped in for coffee and stayed for lunch. This was a nice, "safe" stop. They mark your order if Celiac--and have many choices. All three of the soups were gf. That's nice, versus the usual--one or no choices.
Yes
The food was mediocre aside from a fantastic bite of a Cuban sandwich, but based on other reviews I was expecting much better fare. I was also concerned that my son may have been glutened because his sandwich was grilled on a Panini press that also grills wheat bread sandwiches
No
We have separate equipment for all of our gf items.we use separate cutting boards and knives.we were the first in town to do this. please correct the review if you can. we take this very seriously. thank you.
This place has amazing gluten free Belgium waffles. It is a little pricy, but it was worth it. They will also make yummy boxed lunch sandwiches to go.
Great panini with homemade potato chips (also gf). Tons of gf desserts offered too!
Yes
Delicious sandwiches with GF bread and homemade sweet potato chips. When I requested GF bread, the waitress asked if I was celiac to ensure a safe cooking environment. Loved this place!
This cafe had many gluten-free, dairy-free, and vegan options. I had just been wanting a smoothie and was able to have one made with almond milk. They also had options with coconut milk. You can substitute a gluten-free bun or bread with any sandwich. (It is right next to my husband's favorite hiking store.) The food was outstanding. It was a little pricey, but worth it considering we got smoothies, lunch and a dessert. I am looking forward to tbe gluten-free, vegan carrot cake I am taking home!
Yes
Perfect for our family (all celiac!) Really family friendly, toys & chalkboard for kids. Very knowledgeable about gf options. Yummy food! Ask for the chips slightly undercooked - their idea of done is my idea of burnt! :) Still good though!
Yes
Outstanding sandwiches and smoothies. You may think you don't want or need a smoothie or juice, but turns out you do. Trust me.
Yes
Had a delicious smoothie (gf and df) just before leaving on the ferry. When we returned a few days later it was lunchtime, and we stopped for lunch. It's not a gf only place, but lean heavily that way. Their fries (regular and sweet potatoes) are gf and delicious! So was the main dish. I'm sorry I don't have something like New Day where I live.
Yes
Great to-go service, asked me if I was celiac or just gluten free.
Oh my gosh! This place makes not only the best GF sandwich I've ever had, but the best sandwich I've EVER had!!! So good!
I ordered a turkey breast, cheddar cheese, mayo and avocado on their own GF bread and WOW! It was fabulous! I am seriously thinking of driving the nearly 3 hrs from my town to spend the day in cute Port Angeles just to try their GF stuffed french toast and of course take home a sandwich to go.
They have a good amount of GF options and the employees are very conscientious as soon as you say GF. Which I love as I don't enjoy getting sick. ;)
Yes
This place is awesome! The whole staff truly understand Celiac requirements, and have never done me wrong. They also have a dedicated fryer! The salad bar is not your typical salad bar. It's amazing, and 100% GF. The food is really, really good AND they won't poison you. I only wish they still kept dinner hours! It's so nice to go somewhere where I can relax and order and I don't have to interrogate anyone and then worry. These guys are great!
Yes
Great food, agree with previous reviews.

Nice variety of gf options. I finally decided on the banana stuffed French toast and loved it! Wish I were close so that I could try more. They even have a dedicated fryer, though i didn't try anything fried.
Best gluten free menu I've seen. Udis buns available for burgers. Must visit. Mind-blowingly good food and coffee. Go out of your way if you have to.
this was the best gluten free food i have ever had! there apple pancakes pigs in a blanket and banana stuffed french toast were so good I jokingly told my husband that I'd be leaving him for the chef. the waitress was knowledgeable and accomodated all of our families allergies. dairy soy and gluten. the food was delicious but it did seem to take awhile so don't wait till you're famished. there are floor to ceiling chalk board and board games to occupy the kiddos. loved it.
Wonderful gluten free roast beef sandwich. Can't wait to try it again on my next visit.
