Love this place! Super aware of Celiac and food allergies and very accommodating. Lots of variety and very delicious! I can’t tell you how many times I’ve eaten at this place and never a bad experience.

They have good options and burritos. Be careful driving around that corner. There is a back way to get in through the alley. Wish it was cleaner also because it’s next to the freeway but if don’t mind some grime once in a while. Shoot for the mushroom carnitas burrito. Let them know you have an allergy, they have a really nice indoor table set up with free water, games and art on the wall. It’s pretty cool!

So many GF menu items. I had a bowl of turkey chili and a Mexican salad. Both were good. It’s kind of one of those everything restaurants..they even had Asian food. Nothing memorable, but everything was decent.

If you also have issues with dairy, egg, etc this menu has substitutes for basically every dish. The Hugo's chicken pasta dish (while an affront to Italian sensibilities) was delicious with the cream sauce subbed out for DF, lentil pasta for GF, and vegan cheese. Haven't had a nice sit-down meal like this for a while and also affordable.

This place is amazing - my daughter’s (with celiac) favorite restaurant of all time. So many options and as i understand lots of care taken for dietary issues. Her favorites - fried pickles, cauliflower pakora, cinnamon roll French toast - but awesome for breakfast, lunch, dinner, catering (did thanksgiving catering support). They have something for everyone - menu is huge and i think basically everything can be done GF.

Went there for brunch on a Sunday - make reservations if you can as it was very busy! Food was fantastic - ordered a scramble (eggs, bacon, avocado, tomato, and cheddar) with a cup of fruit and a pancake on the side. Portions were generous and they were very knowledgeable about cross contamination - I felt confident eating there. Did not get sick and would definitely go back again whenever I’m in town.

I ordered the fried chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy and was very pleased with my meal. Well seasoned and very filling. The fact that everything on the menu can be made gluten free and the server asks if you have any allergies and takes extra precautions is seriously music to my ears. Also they have an extensive menu making it easy to want to come back.

Nearly the entire menu is gluten free or can be prepared gluten free. The same can be said about vegan and vegetarian options. When I asked for gluten free pasta the server asked me if I had a gluten allergy and if cross-contamination is an issue. All fried foods are gluten free so contamination in the fryer is not a problem. Thoughtful and knowledgeable!

Had the gluten free fried chicken wrap in a gf tortilla. All was delicious and tasted like the real thing! Huge gf menu, had stone delicious IPA which is a gf beer (<20 ppm) Make sure you specify it’s an allergy and that you need separate surfaces because of cross contamination.

This post is based on their delivery experience-

Recently been on a gluten free diet and was scoping the Los Angeles valley area for healthy eats.

After reading the reviews, I decided to give Hugo’s a go and have a bit of mixed feelings.

Ordered:

- Nachos (rating: 3/5) as they were tasty, but some of the cheese wasn’t melted, was more salsa to chips ratio, and overall cold.

- Cuban Sandwich (rating: 2/5) as the sandwich jar great ingredients but overall felt it was very sweet.

- Cafe Latte (rating: 5/5) temperature and taste was super on point :)

All in all they have great ingredients and appreciate that they cater to gluten free and healthy eaters, but feel like it missed the mark.

I may try again with other items in the future.

Great experience! Tasty food and knowledgeable staff. Even leave a marker at your seat to identify where special dietary needs are sitting. Flatbread is closer to a focaccia than tortillas. I would visit again!

Staff was very knowledgeable and helpful. They have tamari, but most items are already prepared in soy, teriyaki, or ponzu sauce. I had sashimi, a GF mod of the garlic edamame, and chicken without sauce (which was delicious but would have been better with sauce).

Went with a group and our celiac kiddo. Felt very safe and lots of options but none of us loved it. They mention that they rely on “natural seasoning” to flavor things so you can ask for salt. But for the kids this was challenging and I agreed the kids meals were just meh. I think you need to be very selective about what you order here. But it’s safe!

Pretty much everything on their menu is either gluten-free or can be made gluten-free. My celiac husband and I have been eating here for days during a visit to LA, and not only is the food delicious but the staff is super celiac friendly. Huge menu, and my husband hasn’t gotten sick once since we’ve eaten there (every day for the past five days). Highly recommended!

The atmosphere was great. The staff was so knowledgeable and the amount of choices were incredible. The food itself was absolutely delicious. Definitely will be going back. Hands down best variety we have found in the San Fernando Valley.

The servers are very knowledgeable about gluten allergies they mark your table is gluten-free. All of the pancakes that they serve in this restaurant are gluten-free so there’s no chance of cross-contamination. I would say 90% of the food that they serve is gluten-free. I don’t have celiac’s but I have an anaphylactic shock reaction to gluten and I was safe here. I cannot have even a trace amount of gluten. So I would say the place is celiac friendly and safe.

Arrived at 12:30 on Saturday and the wait was only bout 15 minutes to get a table. Received the drinks rapidly and the ordering was fine. You will need your smartphone to get the menu online. Very well laid out menu with labels for food daily free, gluten free, gluten free modification possible, nut allergy, soy free, vegan and vegetarian. So many gluten free options, about 80% of the menu. Had the burger with bacon and fries without any reaction. It did take about 25 minutes from the order to receiving the food. All tables inside now and well spaced out.

I cannot wait to go again and try something else.

Oh my goodness!! My daughter had churos for the first time in her life!! I’m overly impressed watching the Covid care they have done and the cleaning. We wish we were staying closer to eat here again!!!

I’ve eaten at Hugos for years, and it is one of my favorite gluten-free places. Their menu is huge, and they are entrées are great. My absolute favorites are the fried pickles and sticky buns. Both are dairy free as well!

Haven’t had fried pickles in YEARS and they were delicious. The tomato soup was also incredible. Felt very safe eating here, they give all customers with allergies a coaster to alert all the servers.

Hugo’s is solid. Great selection as in lots of options. The dishes I’ve tried here are very good. Fries are GF which is fantastic. I really like the cinnamon rolls here too but often time too full to get them at the end!

This place is super celiac friendly as long as you know what you are ordering. Let them know your specific allergies. Be aware that they do not have a dedicated fryer so anything fried is not safe.

Amazing! Almost everything is gf or can be made gf. I had a gluten free vegan Reuben with tomato bisque soup. The gf rye bread was the best bread I've had in the 17 years since my Celiac diagnosis. I asked where they got it and the server said the chef bakes it in house. Seriously one of my best eating experiences since going GF.

I have been cross-contaminated twice and ended up so sick after making it very clear to the server and staff that I have a medical intolerance. I do not believe this place is safe for those with Celiacs even if they tell you they know what they are doing. Never returning.

It was so satisfying to have real breakfast food on my vacation! We ordered the chocolate chip pancakes and cinnamon bun, which was plenty for 2 people to share. My mom who isn't GF enjoyed the food, and we returned later in the week for more.

Update: Gluten free doesn't mean Celiac safe! They don't use a dedicated pan for pancakes.

Staff were great and we're very informed about coeliac disease. My friend loved his GF chocolate chip pancakes. I had an eggs benedict but they only had GF flat bread which was disappointing. My meal was okay, not amazing.

I am not sure why one of the reviewers said that they do not have a gluten free menu. They did! Their menu has so many selections that my family had a hard time deciding what to order. Food was fantastic!
