I had a great experience here! They brought out GF chips for the salsa when I told them I was gluten free with celiac. Everything was delicious and to die for. We got the guacamole with GF chips as an appetizer and it was yummy! For my entree, I got the vegetarian enchiladas. I also have a dairy allergy, and the veggies on the inside are typically pan fried in butter but they pan fried them in oil for me and omitted cheese. The food runner double checked with the chef to ensure my enchiladas were GF & DF as he got nervous that they were not when he ran them out. Turns out, they were safe! Everything was so tasty and I can’t wait to go back next time I’m in San Antonio! BONUS: if you sit on the patio, you get a pretty view overlooking the riverwalk.
Ordered the gluten free lime fish and as my son started to take a bite of the house made chips that come with it the server came by and told him to immediately stop, that those weren't gluten free. My question then is why was the dish listed as gluten free? Thank goodness my son didn't eat it. She asked if he wanted to take to chips away but it already touched his main food so we opted for him to not eat here which is unfortunate as this place had great reviews.
Amaaaazing!! Had the fish tacos for dinner and the Mexican chocolate mousse for dessert! 10/10 recommend both. Thorton/ Angel was very helpful and very nice! He double checked with the chef that everything I ordered was in fact gluten free !
I’ve had a lot of fish tacos, but these may have topped the charts. We had fish & shrimp tacos & were obsessed with both. The chips & salsa were also yummy & totally gluten free. Would come back in a heart beat because this place is soooo yummy! Also, didn’t have any reaction at all.
Huge gf menu! The server assured me that the chips could be fried in a gf fryer. The tacos are served on soft corn tortillas if you order them gf. The server did note that there's an error on the menu and the crepe dessert is NOT actually gf. Their patio overlooking the river walk is beautiful!
Extensive GF menu for a Mexican restaurant. Staff and chef very knowledgeable. GF chips are not made in house- bought from a facility that does NOT produce any wheat products. House made chips are NOT GF- so make double sure they bring the correct GF chips when you order. Corn tortillas are Xanthan Gum free. Dedicated fryer for all GF fried orders. I am an EXTREMELY sensitive Celiac and had NO issues here. Highly, Highly recommend!
Their regular menu had their gluten free/vegan/vegetarian options on it. I had the chicken tacos with rice and black beans. I also had the table side guacamole, the chips they bring out with the salsa ARE gluten free, but the chips they bring out with the table side quac are NOT GF. I asked if we could just have more of the gluten free chips with the table side quac and they were very accommodating and wonderful. Will be going back!
Many gf items clearly marked on menu. For a restaurant on the Riverwalk, the ambiance was not so great. We sat outside on patio which was located half way between street level and Riverwalk. Not a very welcoming space. Food was ok, not great. We were still glad to find a place that offered gf options
Great experience here! The menu is marked as to which items can be made GF. Both the manager and server were very knowledgeable about what could be tweaked for our needs. We also have egg and dairy allergies in our family as well. I had the Cochinita Pibil and the rest of my family opted for shrimp tacos. The margaritas were very good as well.
Clearly marked items on menu as gluten free. The food itself was alright, not the best mexican food I've ever had. My wife really enjoyed her dish, mine was pretty standard. I had a good gluten-free experience I would say, but nothing to make me want to immediately come back for more. Waiter was very nice!
We ordered the dinner for two and it includes grilled chicken, Mexican sausage, steak, pork Carnitas, potatoes, two shrimp, corn on the cob, grilled onions and a bowl of Charro beans… It was extremely delicious but we ended up with a lot of leftovers. We would recommend this for three or four people honestly… Chips and salsa were really good, different than the average red salsa, more like a smokey tomatillo salsa. Nice atmosphere, casual and cozy. Got really loud the busier it was of course, but we enjoyed it all in all. Very gluten friendly and knowledgeable.
Acenar's menu is clearly labeled with GF next to items when applicable which made it very easy to order. Their food was AMAZING! The best Mexican food I've had in years; I'm so bummed I'm only in the area for a few days. Everything was fresh and delicious! Highly recommended!!!
A lot of items marked as GF on their menu. Food was good but I don't think my server had as much knowledge as others have reported. He had to ask me if the sides that came with my meal that I specifically chose because it was listed as GF would be OK.
The menu has gluten-free items clearly marked, although these include items that are fried in the same oil as non-GF items. Tell your server if you are celiac as they are very knowledgeable and will get the chef to make adjustments. The food was delicious (and the margaritas too!).
Wonderful place! The food was really good and the staff was knowledgeable. Our son who has Celiac and is very sensitive did not have any reactions. He was excited to be able to have a scoop of ice cream (that the staff verified was gf) even though he didn't order a kids meal. They were very friendly and helpful and treated us very well.
Went here for a work event and they were fabulous. The staff was fast and efficient. The food was excellent I had shredded pork over rice that was delicious. Would definitely recommend if your visiting San Antonio. A lot safer than other Mexican choices along the river walk.
