Gluten Free at Chipotle

Chipotle does not have a gluten free menu but instead has a list of gluten-containing ingredients to avoid. Cross-contamination is a concern, however, so let the person taking your order know that you are gluten free and if you need them to take the proper precautions.

From their website: "If you avoid gluten, don't eat our flour tortillas. If you are highly sensitive to gluten and would like us to change our gloves, just let us know at the start of your order. You should be aware items containing corn, including corn tortillas (chips, soft corn, and crispy corn tortillas) and corn salsa, may have a small amount of gluten from potentially co-mingling with gluten-containing grains in the field."

The entire line changed gloves, washed hands, cleaned the counter, changed spoons and got fresh toppings. Obsessed.

Although Chipotle is delicious, I don't know how anyone can see this as Celiac Friendly! I went there and even though they changed the gloves, they use their hands to serve the lettuce and cheese! So they changed the gloves for me but then they used the same ingredients they used for the guy in front of me which were handled with the contaminated gloves from the tortilla! NOT Celiac Friendly!

Every time I go to Chipotle and tell them I’m Celiac they know what to do. They change gloves, get servings from the back (fresh), etc. Great place. I feel safe there. One of the few places for me.

Absolutely not!!! Changed gloves but planned to used same stuff they had just touched the tortilla with. Only for people of GF fad - not for people with allergies or celiac. Also, they didn't even seem to understand the concept of allergens.

The staff is always accommodating; they always make me feel “normal”, they never make a big deal about getting fresh ingredients from the back and changing their gloves. They are always friendly :) (most importantly) I also have not had a reaction

I’ve never had a reaction from eating here and I eat here frequently. They do change their gloves if you tell them you’re GF. I usually get a bowl with rice, meat, cheese, guacamole and queso. I eat the chips with the queso too, it’s all good.

This restaurant is the most educated and caring when it comes to celiac. The line staff wash their hands, change gloves, and ask what items I would like so they can change out serving utensils. the only "gluten" item on their menu is the burrito. so you can do the tacos, burrito bowls or burrito with a corn tortilla. same with their quesadillas. The manager came up during my first visit and made me feel extremly comfortable. I can confidently eat here and not worry about how I'm going to feel in the morning. THANK YOU!!!

Had to go to San Antonio for work. The staff at Chipotle was extremely knowledgeable about Celiac, changed their gloves, handled my food down the whole line, and ensured no one else touched my bowl. I ate here three times over a 5 day period, and never got sick...and as usual, the food was outstanding.

I am so nervous when I got out to eat at chain restaurants. Paul (I believe he was the Manager?) was incredibly helpful and walked his staff through keeping cross contamination at a minimum. Thankfully they were slow! Paul made fresh taco shells for us as they only had one left-such great customer service! The staff changed their gloves and didn’t make me feel embarrassed for having an allergy. I would definitely go back as this Chipotle is on point! Thank you!

The staff here seems well trained in dealing with celiac and gluten sensitive persons. They have a routine where everyone changes the serving utensils, gloves, wash hands and wipe the counters down before proceeding with the order. They will even grab from fresh containers to avoid cross contamination.

Friendly staff and a manager who takes allergy protocol seriously. Chipotle isn’t perfect for celiacs, and it’s best not to go during peak times, but this location seems good in terms of being diligent and accommodating.

My experience with Chipotle has been hit and miss. Today was a miss. I told my server right away that we are celiac needed to be gluten free. He didn’t seem to know what that meant. I asked him to change his gloves and then as we were giving our order he touched flour tortillas and then our bowl so I asked him to change his gloves again and get a new bowl. They did not get new ladles or do anything else as a precaution against cross-contamination. I’m hoping we don’t get sick. Typically Chipotle has been my go-to because it’s generally safe and a common restaurant when we’re traveling. It seems like they’ve gotten lax in their training.

Chipotle is an easy, quick option for safe GF food. Although they change gloves if you ask, and can also make your food in the back, we have never gotten sick from food prepared without those measures. However it’s important to note that we have not tried the tacos. We have only had the burrito bowls, which don’t involve the same equipment as the burritos. So the tacos made with corn tortillas may not be safe. It is a good option for “normal” food without having to wait extra time for GF or get a different/“weird” meal.

I’ve eaten at plenty of Chipotle restaurants before, including this one, and can’t remember ever feeling bad afterwards. My son-in-law picked up our order, 8 - 10 minutes away and brought it home. The three orders were entered on our phone mobile app so we know we asked for certain ingredients. Their carelessness in fulfilling my ingredient order, and since I got sick doesn’t seem to be a coincidence. The 3 Oval bowls were kind of disgusting to look at. One order asked for extra veggies,...nope. But one order asked for a little sour cream. Instead, it was a sour cream soup. The food didn’t taste wrong, but it’s easy to image cross contamination by specific worker. I’m a fan of Chipotle and this won’t scare me off. I would advise to listen to that little Alarm in your head that says Leave!

Amazing staff. Never get sick when I come here and I come here at least once a week for their burrito bowls. 10/10 customer service and celiac friendly for sure as long as you have a burrito bowl and not a burrito!

Gave me an allergy chart as soon as I mentioned having Celiacs. Just the flour tortillas have gluten in them. I usually opt for the bowl anyway. There is a disclaimer that there could be cross contamination in corn salsa and corn chips from being in field. They also changed their gloves before I even asked.

My husband got a few tacos and when tested came back contains gluten on the Nima test. The employee that helped us didn't seem to care when we said we had a gluten allergy. Definitely will not be coming back to this location. Other locations take extra precautions when preparing food for us.

We eat here frequently. Let them know you have a gluten allergy. They will wash their hands and change gloves. Ask them to wipe down the counter and change utensils. Get fresh ANYTHING that is dispensed with hands (lettuce, cheese, etc). 95% of the time we eat here we are fine. There are always one-off misfires but that’s par for the course.

This is my go-to for eating gluten free. The only items one needs to avoid are the flour tortillas and the small flour tortillas for tacos.
