The cold subs are your best bet here, as the hot subs go on the stove which has cross contamination with bread according to the staff member I spoke with. When I said I was getting a gluten free sub, they offered to change their gloves and get a dedicated cutting board. They seemed very knowledgeable about cross contamination. The staff member at the head of the line cleaned down the slicing machine and was persistent in making sure everyone down the line changed their gloves before my sub got to me. If you’re very sensitive, I could imagine cross-contamination might still be an issue with the possibility of crumbs getting in the toppings throughout the day. The bread is meh but overall a good sub and they even have a gf snickerdoodle cookie option.

I have only ordered from them twice since having to go GF, and it was great both times! I would refer to other commenters tips on the protocols the employees follow as far as how safe they are with criss contamination, but as a former sandwich fast food employee, I know they have to be very careful when someone says they have an allergy, and they are trained on how to handle it.
I ordered the #7, which I always get, with the GF bread, and I will say it was denser and drier than usual. The second time I ordered, I compromised with adding extra condiments and doubling the meat. Worked perfectly! Though I paid a little extra for the GF bread and the double meat, it gave me more servings than usual, so it almost evened out in price.

Have not eaten a sub/hoagie in almost 5 years and I am so glad I gave this location a try. Went after dinner rush (almost 7:30pm) and asked what precautions they take for Celiac's. Was told they wipe down the slicer and counter, new bread knife (actually have separate one they keep bagged on the shelf with the gluten free bread), wash hands, change gloves. They did exactly that and I am feeling fine the next morning as I write this. I did skip mayo (spreader sits in bin) and the dressing but was fine with the tomato, lettuce and onion out front.

Gluten free bun, yummy sandwiches. When you tell it’s an allergy they make it in a separate space from regular breads. And mark the outside with gf

My husband got lunch from there today and the gentlemen in front of him ordered a gluten free sandwich. They did have their sandwich bread in a plastic sealed bag, but he didn't change the cutting board, or his gloves. He made the sandwich in the same area all the other ones are made. He got mayo on his sandwich and then person making the sandwich used the same bowl of mayo with the same spatula as all the other sandwiches. Definite cross contamination in this restaurant.

Yummy subs on gluten free rolls that don't fall apart. We have 2 very sensitive celiacs in our house. We have ordered subs from Jersey Mike’s on at least 10 occasions and have never had any reaction or issue. And they are very friendly, too!

They have gluten free buns for sandwiches but the bun wasn’t toasted and was very thick, which if you know gluten free buns they’re not that great already but overall it wasn’t bad

So, everything tastes great but the service at the Schererville location has fallen off.
The employees are very dismissive of cross contamination concerns and made my sandwich without cleaning off the counter (or even putting down a clean paper as a barrier) and slathered on Mayo from the shared bin with the shared knife.
Other locations have been fine, but I’m not sure that management is very involved with this location and the teens that run it in their absence.
Gave 2 stars because they used to be good and I’m hoping that they’ll clean up their act.

The Manager asked his staff to stop everything and changed gloves and cleaned prep area as soon as we told him that my son has celiac disease. Subs were delicious. We visited this location a few times during our vacation.

I was about to get a sandwich and the lady was wiping off the slicer. With a dirty dry cloth. She wiped all the bread crumbs on the counter then rubbed it all over the meat slicer. The slicer had cheese smeared all over and she added the gluten to it with her “wiping”. I was just confused if she was going g to get a clean cloth when she walked away. Then she walked around in the back and came back and said they were out if gluten free bread. So I left. But I wasn’t going to be safe eating there anyway. I have eaten the hot chicken sandwich in the past where the meat is from the freezer so slicer was not used. It was just OK. Not enough meat

They wipe the meat slicer and counter down, change gloves (without being asked), used parchment paper to put everything on so it never touched the surface, used a separate knife to cut my sandwich that was also kept separate. I also saw the man who sliced the meat wash his hands before putting new gloves on. Gf bread was also packaged to prevent cross contamination and kept in a separate area. The sub roll tastes good also, it is not dry and crumbly. It can take awhile for them to wipe off the slicer so I recommend going at a less busy time (not peak lunch for example)

The employees take the time to wipe down all of the surfaces and the meat slicer before preparing anything for a gluten free sub. They even did this when there was a large line behind us. The sandwich was delicious and I would definitely go back if I needed a meal while on a trip or in a hurry.

Ordered the Turkey Provolone cheese regular size sub. They use Udi’s sub roll, which I wasn’t aware Udi’s made one. I didn’t feel like I was missing a thing. They also gave Ydi’s GF Snicker Doodle cookies.

Jersey mikes offers sandwiches on their Gluten Free bread. The staff stops everything, cleans all surfaces, changes gloves and does an amazing job keeping the gluten free order separate from any gluten contamination.

Amazing! So nice to have a real Italian sub without worry! Each gluten free roll is individually wrapped. When you order, they wipe down the space, change gloves. Then get a clean knife and open the bread. They slice the deli meat fresh to order. They even got a new container for red pepper relish without even needing to ask. They are so nice in here and they dont mind taking all these steps to get you a delicious, safe sandwich.

They have gluten-free bread and a completely separate drawer of gluten-free toppings for their sandwiches. I would caution against getting anything grilled since they do go on the same grill, however the one time I did order something on the grill I had no issues as they cleaned it very thoroughly in front of me before using.

They cut fresh meat and cheese from a clean slicer in the back. They prepared my sub separately from gluten subs. They wrapped my sub separately. They used fresh ingredients from the back, Not from the make table up front. I felt very confident my meal was GF. The bread was a little dry, but that’s expected from GF bread.

Went here because I heard you can put a “sandwich” in a tub without bread. I came to find they did Udi’s gluten free subs. I told them I was GF and they asked if it was by choice or allergy. I said allergy and immediately every staff stopped, cleaned down every single surface, changed all of their gloves and grabbed new utensils. They were so kind, patient and knowledgeable. I appreciated it so much and will definitely be back!!

My son has celiac so we ordered sub in a tub and indicated he has a gluten allergy. The employee changed gloves and used a seperate prep area, however, she pulled from the same toppings bin as her fellow employees who were handling bread. I had to cancel the order so I do not know if it would have made him I'll. It wasn't worth chancing.

I haven’t had a sub in YEARS. We went today and the first guy didn’t know much when I started asking about gluten free, but another girl immediately popped over and started teaching the young man, and/walking him through gluten free allergy procedure. Sub was expensive but oh so good! So far I have not gotten sick either!

I will say they gave their best effort. Changed gloves, wiped down everything. However it's still shared equipment and I believe CC was still in play. We dined in, took our time, and about 30 minutes after eating my son, unfortunately, got sick right there in the restaurant :( Staff was super nice to this embarrassed mama. Great subs... But I would not recommend for those with celiac disease.

Staff is knowledgeable. Udi’s roll is individually wrapped and then cut with separate knife for GF orders. Slicer was cleaned and gloves changed. Sandwich was made in front of me on parchment paper, not the cutting board. The only thing I will do different next time is ask for only one person to handle my sandwich. Overall, a very nice experience and the sandwich (turkey and provolone) was amazing!

I can't say enough good things about Jersey Mike's for Celiac people like myself. Love the online order feature. They'll change gloves and knives for you and use a protective piece of paper as it goes down the line for other toppings. The gluten free bread itself is super delicious. Some days it can be a little stale but I honestly don't even mind. Super great sandwich! Thank you Jersey Mike's!!!

I’ve eaten here several times. I’ve always ordered over the phone for pick up and each time the person helping me has been very knowledgeable about their food and cross contamination. All of their ingredients (except the regular bread) are GF. They have a GF bun which is so-so. It’s a little on the dry side but I haven’t met a GF bun that tastes much better :)

The filling to gluten free ratio is off. You have to get double meat and triple sauce at least and even then you will be throwing bread away. Very good otherwise
