Celiac

Has anyone ever worked at Chipotle? I’ve never had a reaction but was wondering how safe it really is.

denice472 the food itself is gluten free, except the flour tortilla. cross contamination is a problem but if you ask they will use new utensils and change gloves

dina165 The food should be taken from the back line that hasn’t been used yet, it’s too risky for cross contamination otherwise since they scoop right into the flour tortilla.

lisaglutenfreebkr My son worked there for 2 years and he’s Celiac. If you explain you’re gluten free due to an allergy, someone there is usually knowledgeable. They may ask your sensitivity to see if you will need the spoons changed out, their hands will get washed and new gloves. Always ask for cheese out of the new container.

LaLechuzaVerde I haven’t worked there but I’ve found a lot of variation on how well trained the staff is, or whether they give a darn. I’ve had fresh gloves, fresh utensils, and freshly cleaned prep areas at some locations, and at others been looked at like I’m crazy if I ask for basic cross contact precautions.

shannon35724 I have eaten there before. They insist there isn’t cross contamination when making the food on the line, but I have seen it at multiple locations. I always ask for new containers of everything and not had an issue.

brie9231 At the location I worked at we were trained on the proper protocols when a guest comes in and says they have a gluten allergy. They’re supposed to change their gloves, wash their hands, take you all the way through the line, and take out the ingredients like cheese and lettuce from the cooler to ensure no cross contamination. We did that at my location but after traveling and going to other locations it’s very apparent that they have no clue what they’re doing, management should be making that a priority and they just don’t do that everywhere :/

jen45755 I ate there and I got sick, not sure about them

dani58 Although they were ok for me and they change their gloves and bring our fresh ingredients for you, I’ve gotten food poisoning twice from there. Many people I know have also. So although I love chipotle, sadly I won’t be eating there anymore.

puddingsins Chipotle has been my go to for years, but they did me dirty just last week. Lots of variation in how they prep food for celiacs. Make sure they’re using fresh utensils and fresh ingredients, particularly for lettuce and cheese, as both come into contact with their gloves, which they use to roll burritos.
