I will cut them some slack, as I ordered take out on Christmas eve. On the phone, the gentleman reassured me and was able to walk me through which menu items could be made gluten free even offering alternatives for the items that could not be made. So I ate the food with great confidence upon arrival. Unfortunately it was too delicious to be true. I became symptomatic immediately and found noodles in one of the dishes. When I called back to confirm, the lady was dismissive, first telling me that "if you said it's gluten free, then it's gluten free." I pushed a bit about what sort of noodles were in the Mongolian beef, and she confirmed that they were in fact wheat noodles. She reported that he "must have forgotten to tell the chef" and was unable to confirm whether the rest of the meal was safe or not. Do not recommend for those who are sensitive.
Years ago, before I knew I was celiac, this was my favorite local restaurant. Then I found I could not tolerate gluten... and the only thing on Alice's menu that was gluten-free was the fried rice. But I was thrilled to learn things have changed and a fair portion of their menu can be prepared GF, so I'm back to being a big fan. Tried 4 dishes in the last two weeks and I'm very happy. Recommended! Just wish they would create a GF menu so I could have an easier time selecting items without first asking questions.
Amazing find near Noe Valley. Beautiful and refreshing authentic Chinese food. They were able to make almost every dish GF. Staff was courteous and extremely careful. I’ll be back here for sure!!
