This place is very safe - hardly anything here even has gluten in it, and the staff seem to understand what gluten is, at least. Our server knew which dishes were gluten-free, but they aren't marked on the menu. I went when business was very slow, so I don't know if cross-contamination from the naan might be more likely when things are busy.
The food is good, but the service is terrible (other than the gluten knowledge!). As in, your server will avoid you like the plague, dodge eye contact with you if they have to come nearby to serve someone else, pretend not to see you if you wave at them, and force you to physically chase them down to get a glass of water or pay your bill or whatever. I've only been there once, but the folks I went with have gone many times and they said it's always like that.
The food was excellent and the workers were able to point out what was safe and what was not on the menu. They let me know that the cheese for the saag paneer was fried in the shared frier, so none of the dishes with fried cheese were celiac safe, but most of the other main dishes were.
Anything fried is contaminated by the samosas, so stay away from pakoras, papadums etc... Otherwise, only the naan is off-limits. We had different curries and loved them all. They were not extremely spicy, which allowed us to taste the different flavors layered in each sauce. Loved it!
We ate at different restaurants in Monterey and this was by far my favorite! Basically everything that wasn’t in the bread section of the menu is gf!
Great cheap (~$10) Indian buffet lunch. Lots of options. You can ask what's gluten free.
