I ate at Applebee's in Watertown for the second time in about a year and both times had a great experience. The staff in the kitchen were extremely careful and I did not get sick. Today, Nov. 18, '23, I had the fiesta chicken lime and it was absolutely incredible. They clean their fryers every night so you might get lucky and be able to have chicken wings or fries if one of their fryers has not been cross contaminated yet on the day of your visit. They're online menu specifies allergens better than their in-house menu and the manager came out and spoke to me and assured me they would do their best to avoid cross-contamination, they seemed quite knowledgable.
Very limited options, difficult to decipher allergen menu, uninformed wait staff and after all the education and double checking.. still ended up contaminated. FYI- the allergen menu lists some items as free of wheat (salsa chips, French fries, etc.) but they are fried with wheat. Won't be going back!
Their regular menu is so complicated and then to look each item up in a book of allergies. It's impossible. Waitress was no help, said they can't guarantee GF. Why have Applebees in this app? I went with the allergy menu and hostess digestion but was sickened.
I ordered gluten free asked 3 times to make sure confirmed when the food was delivered. Before I was half done with the chicken I was running for the bathroom. I will not go back.
It was an awful experience!!!! The manager and waitress were extremely rude very uneducated on the needs of a person with a gluten allergy and I left hysterically crying! They had a "gluten free menu" but when I asked questions the manager pointed things out on said menu and said the spices they use have gluten in them ... THEN WHY ARE THEY ON A GLUTEN FREE MENU!!! it was the worst experience ever and was even harder considering it was my first experience dining out after being given the news about my new allergy. I highly recommend NOT going to Applebee's on Arsenal street I will MEVER EVER go back
Allergy menu but no gf specific menu. I are the fiesta chicken salad minus the dressing. Not bad, but the waitress didn't really listen...
Unfortunately this is my favorite restaurant, my son is the one with the sensitivity & stomach cramps not me. I’ve gotten us the bourbon street chicken n shrimp with mash potatoes and I’m assuming somehow through cross contamination ? He’s pooped 2-3 times since eating it for dinner. I’ve made this meal from home, it does not contain gluten.
Overall a good experience. The menu clearly noted GS for Gluten Sensitive beside the meal. Quite a few GS options. I felt comfortable. I can't say the staff completely understood what Gluten free means, but I chose a simple meal I felt safe with.
Yup, who knew Applebees had something to offer! Of course, no GF but the GS (gluten sensitivity) items are marked on the menu. Haven’t really been to one in years but was pleasantly surprised to find a good number of choices. I let my server know that I have celiac and he said he would talk with the kitchen and my Bourbon Street Chicken and Shrimp and mashed potatoes were tasty and no reaction so I was pleased. They have a good number of GS items so I will add them to “might work for me while traveling” list.
I often have the bourbon street chicken and shrimp as it cooks on the cast iron plate sizzling. The menu clearly labels gluten sensitive as they do have the disclaimer for cross contamination. The website also includes the disclaimer of the same utilized fryer as gluten foods and items and highly refined soybean oil, so it is notable that gluten sensitive is not the same as celiac friendly here.
