Oct 11, 2019 Late dinner. Many gluten sensitive menu options listed on the regular menu. The food was prepared to avoid cross-contamination and I did not get sick. The food quality and service was poor for an Applebee, independent of the gluten issue.
Have taken my celiac daughter here multiple times over the past 3 years and she has never been sick. She has only tried a couple items (grilled chicken breast, nachos, loaded mashed potatoes, loaded baked potato, yogurt with strawberries, and the hot fudge sundae shooter). They have an allergen menu on the electronic kiosk at the table where you can see all the gluten free items. There are a lot of options! I always ask that they change gloves and clean surface before fixing her meal.
If you look at the menu they say what products are for “gluten sensitive” individuals. I won’t bother eating here again. I was eating plain tortilla chips and started having a reaction. Server also told me they have a shared fryer, so even though they’re wings don’t have gluten, you won’t be able to eat them anyway.
The menu showed meals that were gluten free though the server didn’t seem to know anything about the menu. I ordered a chicken and strawberry salad and a mango smoothie both of which should be naturally gluten free. The salad was nice however I was definitely glutened as very poorly later that day. Restaurant is also very dated and needs a refurbishment
Deserves a Zero rating. Completely unknowledgeable. I actually called this location in advance to ask if they had a GF menu and I was told “yes.” I arrive with a party of nine people and I was handed a nutrition/allergen guide. We left and went to the Red Lobster a couple blocks away and had great success. No improvement since the last review.
No gluten-free menu. But the staff had a list with all meals that are not containing gluten. The selection is very limited. Some salads and Salmon. Our two daughters (both celiac) went for some salads. Those were delicious and the girls stood healthy.
New menu does not offer many options for GF eating. While the main dish may be listed as GF, the included side dish may not be. Was not allowed to substitue side. Staff was unknowledable of ingredients. Also I was concerned with cross contamination. The is not a great place for a person with Celiac disease. Additional Comments : Silverware was dirty with food stuck to it and the bathrooms were dirty.
Though our server had no knowledge of gluten in their menu items, there were informed and caring staff people available. The menu was on an easy-to-use tablet. My food was delivered hot and delicious. Most importantly, I did not get sick.
This Applebees has an amazing on site manager that has a family member with Celiac! He sat at our table, brought an allergy guide, and told me he would ensure the kitchen space was cleaned and wiped down. I would definitely recommend this Aoplebees for Celiac gluten-free-ers!
Unfortunately, I wouldn't recommend for any celiacs. Only been once but even after ordering off the gf menu and explaining to the server, still had a major reaction to the burger... Likely not everyone's experience but eat with caution :)
The manager came to our table and showed me the allergen list, which was super helpful. There weren't a ton of options but there were a decent amount, and the waitress was super helpful in checking to make sure various things (eg hash browns) were legit gf. I ended up deciding to order a burger without the bun and she was able to change a few things up for me. They said they had separate utensils and things in the kitchen and everyone seemed to know what they were talking about and how to ask the right questions. Food was pretty good - not stellar, but good, exactly the quality I would expect from Applebee's - perfectly adequate and much better than the granola bar I had brought as a back up.
I have very severe celiac and after speaking with the manager and explaining my concerns and her promise to make sure they knew and followed their allergy alert procedures, I felt safe eating here. They offer an allergen menu hard copy and digital (most up to date). I had the bourbon street chicken and shrimp with loaded mash potatoes and a side Caesar salad without croutons that was very good. They are a 3 manager location, Colene, Jim and Antonio and all 3 are pretty knowledgeable.
Staff had zero idea what Gluten is, told me nothing on the menu is safe. Manager and server were rude when I asked and just slammed a binder down for me to look. Which is fine however you don’t need to treat me rudely.
They have a allergens menu but at least 80% of their stuff have wheat in it and the staff isn’t knowledgeable about celiac. It stinks when I go out to eat with my friends and they get half off appetizers when all of those contain wheat (also boneless wings are 1/2 off but gluten free bone-in wings are not)
NOT CELIAC FRIENDLY AT ALL, PERIOD!!! If I could pick 0 stars, I soooo would! The BOH manager/head chef brought the allergen menu to me & they still f'ed it up!!! They have the fries listed on the GF menu well, when cooked in the SAME OIL as FRIED CHICKEN, they're no longer Gluten Free! The hostesses, there were 2 girls up front, BOTH said they had never had anyone ask for the Allergen Menu before! My burger patty, yay!, came with fries which aren't GF, but because my 86 y/o Gma w stage 6 Dementia was with me, I had to eat like 1/2 the patty & still feel like poo tonight! WORST EXPERIENCE @ A CHAIN W A GF MENU IN 10 YEARS!!!
We called first and the person on the phone said yes definitely we have gf items. When we got there and told the waitress she got the mgr and she brought a folder with every food item they have so she could see if what I wanted was gf. Wow. So out of the way. I had small steak and stuffed potato with broccoli. Very good. It’s been 6hrs and no bad reaction. So excited!
Traveling throughout the country remember this every salad is made frona back bar that has been cross contaminated. They have maybe two items that can actually be made safely. BUT they are never the best route for celiac. Aviod too many other place to go.
Very knowledgeable staff. After ordering from the GF menu the waiter came back out to let me know that the food we ordered would be cross contaminated. So we ordered stakes and salads. Very very knowledgeable!
Their allergen binder is extremely hard to use, but my server knew what was gf and wasn’t off the back of his hand. He made sure the kitchen staff knew they had a gf order on their hands. The food was ok but I didn’t get sick afterwards.
Always nervous to try restaurants claiming to have gluten free options but was pleasantly surprised at this Applebee’s. The waitress right away found their allergy/gluten nutritional guide and I was able to find a meal that was perfect for my Celiac Disease and during lent. Great job Applebee’s.
I have also gotten sick 2 out of 3 times. I found their allergen binder not user friendly. A gluten free menu would be better than searching for check marks in boxes on the allergen list.
The allergens menu is in a folder, it is easy to read. Our waitress Tammy was very informative, and attentive! I had the side salad w/out croutons and the bourbon chicken & shrimp entree. It was delicious!
(Update) I ended up getting very sick last night within 1.5 hours so I know I was cross contaminated. 😭 Really impressed with the manager, I went in with my mom needing food to fight off a migraine. I have a severe gluten allergy (possibly celiac) and he was very accommodating, brought out the allergen binder, made sure my order was completely gluten free and took the time to answer all my questions about cross contamination with cooking surfaces and utensils. My mom was also with me and she can’t have soy (breast cancer survivor) and he actually went back to check on what ingredient had soy in the particular meal (bourbon street chicken & shrimp) and came back with a safe alternative for her. It’s really hard for the two of us to find restaurants that can serve us both without it just being a salad, so needless to say we are excited to have options!
If you have Celiac Disease stick to a salad.... The chips are not made in a dedicated fryer and there is risk of contamination with grilled foods as well. More options elsewhere, but trivia nights and drink-specails are always a win!
The staff was not helpful. The hostess wasn’t sure where we could find.the GF menu. When we asked the waitress about a dedicated fryer she said, ‘ I don’t know- I don’t work back there’. They do not have a GF menu, just a list of dishes with all allergens. Very bad GF experience.
Our 8 year old (not celiac but very sensitive) is newly gluten free and we have been very nervous to eat out. She had a cheeseburger with no bun and fries. We shared a chips and salsa platter. I specified that she needed a clean kitchen prep (not sure if I needed to but out of an abundance of caution). The allergen free menu (as for it) is very helpful! No problems tonight and we will definitely return.
