The menu at Archives really emphasizes Celiac -safe options. Everything is made from scratch in-house, with breadings, spices, and fryer gluten-free.
I was able to eat haystack onions for the first time since diagnosis, and the chicken tenders were also terrific. When in Burlington, this will be my go-to restaurant!
Thank you!
Archives is such a gem for anyone that has celiac disease or gluten allergy. I was able to indulge in cheese curds, onion straws, fries and a cheese burger. Staff was very knowledgeable about celiac disease and avoiding cross contamination. Almost everything is gluten free or can be made gluten free.
Thank you!
The service was great. They were extremely busy and had already run out of the Friday night fish. Anything on the menu can be gluten-free with a bread/bun substitution or omission. Everything that is battered and fried is gluten-free. I had cheese curds first. They were a little on the salty side for my taste but I rarely salt anything, so that could just be my taste. For dinner, I had Italian beef and onion straws. Both were delicious. The substitution for gluten-free Italian beef is open faced. That's fine as I just used my fork to dip bites into the aus jus. I also snuck a couple of my husband's french fries, which were also great. After I was too full for another bite, the server informed me that they had several gluten-free desserts, including brownies or key lime pie. I would have skipped the cheese curds for a slice of pie! I would come here again.
Thank you! We do partner with MOR Bakery out of Milwaukee, a completely gluten free bakery so always ask about what their seasonal dessert is!
Nice bar/restaurant. Great cheese curds!!!
Thank you!
My only regret is they’re in Wisconsin and I’m in California. The onions strings, fried chicken and poppers are changing. Did not get sick
Hmmmm Archives 2 in California...has a nice ring to it! Thank you!
LOVE LOVE LOVE this place! Heard about it, but never thought I would get there. Was traveling from Lake Geneva to Milwaukee with friends, and they indulged me. I couldn't decide, so I ordered the chicken tenders, onion strings, and cheese curds. Delicious! Ended up taking most of it home. Best chicken tenders I have ever had. My non-gf friends agreed. Wish they had a location closer to Milwaukee.
Thank you! Maybe some day we will open another one......
Went for dinner had the chicken strips and haystack onions. The chicken was good the haystack was so hard it came in one large piece that had to be cut to eat. They do not offer decaf coffee either.
We would have loved to remake those onions for you if we were asked to! Yes we do not serve decaf coffee, we hardly serve regular coffee so the expense of bringing on decaf just doesn't equate. There is a great coffee shop down the road next time you are craving some decaf!
I’ve eaten here many times and have never gotten sick. I love this place. Dedicated fryer and great food
Thank you!
Archives is the best!! They have so many gluten free options (basically most of the menu can be gf) and a lot of dairy free options too! The staff is great, and the prices are too!
Thank you!!!
We were so excited to find a place within an hour of home that makes preparing GF food a priority. We spoke to the waitress about our celiac daughter as well as our gluten intolerant daughter. The selection of food was great because many of the options just aren’t generally GF. We had cheese curds and onion straws as well as fish fry and chicken tenders. No issues with cross contamination. We’ll definitely be back. The staff and customers were so pleasant and nice to talk to at the bar. A great evening out for dinner! Thank you for doing it right!
Thank you!
Great menu with so many gluten free options!!
Thank you!
I’ve seen and heard amazing reviews, so had to try it myself. My husband and I had the curds, and jalapeño poppers for an appetizer. The batter they use is amazing!!! Both apps were yummy. Only criticism would be the poppers being a little bland. I think bacon bits added to the cream cheese stuffing would add a nice pop of flavor. Dinner I had the fish fry, and it was good. The fish was luke warm, so nothing to write home about. The fries, and tarter sauce were yummy. Husband had the Italian beef. The GF bun was good, but the beef was quite dry. Would not order that again. We would definitely try Archives again!
Amazing GF food! We had the fried onion peels, cheese curds, and chicken sandwiches. Daughtrr has had Celiac's for 14 years and never had a GF cheese curd before....she approved! Most of the food is made in house and server was awesome! If you go on Thursday, you can play trivia too! Great pub atmosphere!
Breath of fresh air. Our 5 year old has celiac disease and this place has it all! Cheese curds, chicken tenders, etc. She was so happy!
Thank you!
Food was decent, but the service was a big miss. Burgers were the standard bar patty, albeit large enough to satiate a big appetite. The fries were stellar. Cheese curd pull apart was super salty, though it didn’t stop me from devouring it.
The service was just downright bad though. I think they got slammed when short staffed or something. But the orders came out missing items, had incorrect sides, had to ask several times for missing condiments, never were asked if we wanted refills, etc. My stepson actually had to go to the bar to ask for a refill. I finished half my burger before I ever got the ketchup that I asked for twice. The two other tables I noticed also had to go to the bar to have requests met. The two women running the show were very nice, but this place needs someone else on the floor.
It’s a haul from where we live so not sure we would make the trek back, but it’s nice to know there’s a place that has dedicated fryers. I would give them a try again if I was in the area because I feel like with the positive reviews we were just there on an off night. The weird thing is that it was like 4:30 on a Sunday and the dining area was empty aside from our table and two others, one of which was almost done when we sat down.
Sam and her Brother in law are owners and have made quite a delicious destination for a person with Celiac Disease!!! The cheese curds warm and peppery. The handcut fries perfection. The chicken tenders so juicy! A dedicated gluten free fryer! Then let's get to the large selection of gluten free and vegan ice creams that can be made into shakes. Let's not miss the boozy shakes too. All I can say is yum!
We are so happy you enjoyed everything!!!
Small mom and pop bar (the perfect kind) filled with friendly locals. Met the owner. She and our waitress were amazing. You can tell they really care about people who can’t have gluten. 95% of menu is gluten free - safe for celiacs gluten free. My daughter was able to have cheese curds, chicken tenders, and fries without worrying. Excellent food. Excellent atmosphere.
We are so happy you and your daughter enjoyed everything!!!
What a great treat to be able to have cheese curds, onion, rings, and french fries! The waitress said they have dedicated fryers for gluten-free, a separate grill area, and homemade sauces that are gluten-free.
Yes, all of our sauces homemade other than the Caesar dressing!! Thank you for the great review!!!
