Ordered a salad and risotto and spoke with the server about gluten, and she assured me neither contained it as it was marked gluten free on the menu. I had a reaction and contacted the restaurant, and the manager was great in investigating what could have been the culprit. They found that candied pecans in the salad could have been the issue as their packaging identifies it's not prepared in a GF facility. The manager said they'd look into other options for purchasing and otherwise update their menu. So unfortunate experience, but excellent response from management.
Their menu says they cannot guarantee it’s free from gluten or cross contamination just ok for “gluten sensitive.” I should have called before going but I looked online and there was a gluten free symbol next to quite a few menu items online so I was excited. There are menu items that go in a shared fryer that are marked ok.. We ultimately decided to leave because they didn’t seem knowledgable enough to provide us a safe experience.
Stay away!!! I specifically chose this restaurant because they marked items as “Gluten Sensitive”due to the risk of cross-contamination. Given that I was already proceeding with caution so I ordered the Brussel Sprouts which were roasted not fried. As soon as I took a bite I realized they had some type of soy sauce in them which was not in the menu description. When I asked the server to check with the chef he said they were made with teriyaki sauce. The server apologized but later came back and said I could have eaten them because they were made with thai chili sauce. Let me tell you, as someone who has been gluten free for 2 years, it was definitely teriyaki sauce! They assured me my salad would be safe because they “told the chef what gluten was” and then asked if I was satisfied when it came out and mentioned it didn’t have croutons on it. To summarize, I don’t think they have a good understanding of what gluten is other than bread and I don’t think it’s safe for anyone who has sensitivities or celiac.
I would avoid going here if you are gluten free. They do have gluten free items marked on the menu but I don't think the kitchen knows what gluten is. We were excited about the Apple Brined Chicken, marked gluten free. But they have changed that for an airline chicken, which has a crab cake on it - not gluten free. After explaining that we have an allergy, we asked if the chicken could be done without the crab cake. We were told yes. Our server was great and seemed knowledgeable. But when the food came out there were crab cakes on it. A manager came out to apologize. We were told that the chefs thought the crab cakes were gluten free, but she had to explain to them that since there are bread crumbs in them they are not. Scary to hear that the kitchen didn't understand that before serving it.Really wanted this to be another good option locally, but we won't be back. The food, after being corrected, was mediocre at best sadly. If the airplane chicken were served on an actual airplane, I might consider walking out on the meal.
