Au Cheval is worth the wait! Almost everything on the menu has a “GF option” logo and the staff was knowledgeable. I was able to order a burger with a lettuce wrap or hash brown bun! I tried the hash brown bun as it was something different! It’s just one hash brown patty on the bottom with the meat on top. SO delicious! I sat at the counter next to the kitchen manager and he even instructed the cook to change his gloves before touching my meal! Loved it and would highly recommend!

Safe place for coeliacs to eat. They understand cross contamination and have most of the menu available GF. Great burgers!

While I was really looking forward to this based on reviews, I got super sick about 30 minutes after eating here. I was not confident that the waitstaff understood my allergy nor was I sure as I watched the food being made in the kitchen. The burger and hash bun were delicious but not worth the pain after.

One of the best meals I’ve had. Per our amazing server, the fries are 100% GF, cooked in their own separate fryer. The burgers are done GF by putting it on a giant hash brown patty — incredible. Get the bacon on it as well. They have Glutenberg blonde tall boys, which is my fav GF beer. They’re knowledgeable about CC and I had no problems. The wait can be 2 hours as this is a Chicago staple and there are no reservations. Walk down and get a drink at Bar Siena and Au Cheval will text you when your table is ready and give you a 10 min grace period to get back.

Delicious! Loved the hash brown replacement for my burger bun. They asked about allergies and seemed knowledgeable

Great service! The waitress was well informed and extremely helpful. She was extra precautious even with the drinks. Hash brown is better than any gluten free bun or lettuce bun I’ve had. 10/10 would recommend for anyone in general but especially those with celiac. The wait is worth it!

They have separate GF fryers and instead of a GF bun, they offer you a hashbun for your burger! So your burger comes on top of a thick hashbrown! Really delicious

Amazing place. I got the hash brown bun as well and they said it was a separate fryer so I felt good. The server also mentioned they take allergies (even though I'm celiac) very seriously. the burger w bacon kept me full for a long time too so you don't necessarily need a side. They had the Glutenberg Pale Ale so that was amazing!

I loved Au Cheval before my Celiac diagnosis and I still do! I have always been so impressed with their allergy protocol. Their burger is one of the best in the country, and the hash brown “bun” is to die for. Load it up with their farm cut bacon—like candy—and an egg and you’re good to go! I’ll also always be grateful to them for their take out services during COVID, as there weren’t many Celiac safe restaurants open in my South Side neighborhood.

Very small menu. Our server was great explaing my options. Their fryers only handle thier hashbrowns, fries, and corn chips all GF. Sad that they dont offer a gf bun but you can get the burger alone, on a lettuce bun, or a hashbrown bun. Overall very good and didn't get sick.
Staff was knowledgeable and polite. Fries are fried separately (and we’re delicious). Thought I’d be bummed about not having GF bread, but the hash brown was delicious.
Very knowledgeable wait staff. Delicious food. I felt safe eating here and would highly recommend.

I was able to have a single cheeseburger on a hash brown. The burger was huge and honestly the best burger I've e we had in my life.

This was the best burger I've ever had in my entire life, including back when I could eat gluten. Our server knew his stuff and made sure my food was safe to eat. We got there 10 minutes before they opened and there was already a long line, but it was definitely worth the wait.
Amazing burger on hash brown 'bun' with delicious bacon and egg. Great, knowledgable staff.
Great burgers and great service.
Best burger place in the city! And it's great that I can enjoy it too-- burger comes on a hash brown "bun" (patty). Fries are made in a dedicated fryer. Servers are conscious and ask if anyone in your party has any dietary restrictions. The only bad part of this place is the super long wait (they don't take resv.).
everything here is cooked in pork fat. I had lemonade. that was fun.
the burger came on a hash brown! I had never seen that before bit was delicious. the waitress was very knowledgeable and helped me navigate the menu. French fries are pretty good and gluten free as well. I will definitely be going back.

Awesome burger on gluten free "hash brown bun." Dedicated fryer for French fries too! Best burger in chicago.
Huge gf menu! Cheeseburger on hash brown bun is better than bread.
Yes
A decent amount of options available. Open faced cheeseburger on a hash brown was very good.
