Symptomatic Celiac

This is my neighborhood bar and pizza joint and I’m puzzled by some of these reviews! I love this place!

Never had a problem here and I have celiac disease and just about instantly know when I’ve been glutened, but double-check when you order. They prepare my pizza separately and bake it in a separate area of the oven. It’s the best gf crust I’ve ever had and not an outrageous upcharge.

As far as Nima sensors, they are not recommended for use by celiacs due to the high number of false positives, among other issues. What is one of the known causes of false positives on Nima? Viscous dairy products. What is the person in the photo waving their sensor in front of? Hot, melted cheese. Nima themselves have admitted that the results are unreliable for fatty or rich foods. You simply cannot point to questionable results from Nima to warn other celiacs away, when several of us who are sensitive say we eat here wirhout a problem.

The employees have always been super friendly to me and very nice about discussing what is gluten-free. They do get busy, but I’ve never seen them be rude. But I treat people like humans and not my personal servants, so your mileage may vary if you have the attitude that everyone is trying to kill you that half the people on this app seem to have.

Re: the review complaining about staff removing an open alcoholic beverage brought from elsewhere — this will cause a bar to lose their liquor license, so yes, they’re going to quickly take it from you so they don’t get shut down. I didn’t think it needed to be said that you can’t bring open alcoholic beverages from elsewhere into a bar (and yes, the outside area is part of the bar and governed by the same liquor license regulations).

The staff is very friendly but the pizza is not safe for Celiacs. I tested the pizza with my Nima sensor and it showed gluten positive meaning there is gluten found in the pizza. The kitchen did use a clean knife, sheet, wash hands etc. but I guess there is just too much gluten in the kitchen. My partner who is not Celiac ate the gluten’s free pizza for me since I couldn’t and he said it was tasty. It’s unfortunate that it isn’t safe.

We have to turn the bad reviews around. This is one of the best gluten-free pizzas, and I have had zero symptoms...I ordered through DoorDash twice on different days to make sure. PDXGF's review convinced me to try Baby Doll, and it's excellent. Very high quality toppings, chewy crust with crisp edge. Just right.

Was able to get a very tasty pizza with gluten-free crust. I was able to build my own pizza, with negligible additional cost for the gluten free option. They also had a few bottled ciders available as a beverage option. It is prepared and cooked with wheat-based crust so not Celiac friendly.

SERVICE IS AWFUL! What I’m disappointed in the most wasn't the raw vegetables and very little cheese on our pizza, but that we were clearly first time customers and the man at the register just treated us as if he just wanted to take our order and be done. The employees are pretentious. The guy who took our order/ manager came outside to my table and took a beer can from us and threw it in the trash saying “all drinks that weren’t bought here need to be thrown out”. He was rude and came in hot. If he would’ve talked to us normally that would’ve been nice, but really ruined the whole experience. I recommend Sizzle Pie for some reallly good gluten free & vegan pizza!

If you have celiac disease, DO NOT go here. I have never been treated so poorly by an establishment when asking a question about celiac safety. I smelled the pizza across the street so I thought I would visit and ask, since Portland, OR is known for GF options. I walked in and said “I have a question for you. Would y’all consider yourself potentially celiac safe?” The person there looked at me like I was crazy and said “what?” I repeated the question and the person said “I mean…I wouldn’t go that far” and looked like they were going to laugh. The other person working there said “I mean I could try and use like other pizza cutters and stuff but there’s literally flour all over me” and the other person said “there’s flour literally all over us in the air.” They just made me feel absolutely stupid.
