Review of Banana Leaf Asian Bistro

Cambodian restaurant in a strip mall right off interstate 10. Not too flashy on the outside, but roomy & welcoming on the inside. Please talk to the owner. The owner (super nice, very kind and gentle) makes almost everything on the premises except the Boba and the meatballs listed for a few dishes so she doesn’t know if Boba/meatballs are GF). Owner knows about gluten and wheat. Agreed to clean wok. She makes her own broth so she knows what’s in it, She does not use soy sauce to cook. Instead, she uses a “seasoning sauce” that is marked gluten-free and an oyster fish sauce that shows no gluten ingredients. No wheat flour on the premises. There was a hoisin sauce bottle on the table with wheat but she says she doesn’t use it in the peanut sauce (her peanut sauce is homemade). She says everything is gluten-free except the fried egg rolls, any dish with egg noodles, the Chinese donut dish (too bad), their sandwiches, not sure about the Boba or meatballs. They have several types of rice noodles. The pho was warm, terrifically flavorful, just enough. We usually don’t drink all the soup but we did here. Beef sticks were amazing, got several orders. Loat cha was delicious, first experience with tear drop rice noodles. Fresh spring rolls in rice wrappers with homemade peanut sauce were mild, hit the spot. All the food came out freaky fast. The ink couldn’t have dried on the order slip before items started pouring out of the kitchen. Soft-spoken patrons- even if it’s crowded it’s quiet here. Tried it out due to the 4.8 rating on Google. Happy we came. She asked us to come back, she had us at “pho”.
