I went to Bar Louie’s to have a nice dinner with my grandmother. I asked the waiter what was safe for people with celiac and he basically told me nothing. I could have a grilled chicken breast or a plain burger. Nothing else. Even the Caesar salad wasn’t safe to eat; the parm is contaminated, the dressing contains gluten, and the croutons of course contain gluten. Don’t make the same mistake as me and try to avoid this place if you or anyone you know has a gluten allergy. I am now sitting here having to watch the rest of my family eat because nothing is safe for me.
I was here for a corporate event and they were super nice about my questions but there’s pretty much nothing safe here. They said I probably couldn’t trust the wings gluten wise. Chips are in a shared fryer. Even the grilled chicken is grilled on the same grill as buns. Salad is probably safe if it didn’t touch anything but comes by default with croutons.
Be careful with alcohol here. I asked about the drink I wanted, and the server said she didn’t know the brand but I could look it up and show her. She then proceeded to tell me it was Dekuyper, which I can drink, but then I saw on the bar that this was not the brand they used and I had to stress about accidentally consuming gluten.
Ate here for the hotel brunch. I had an omelet (asked the cook if they just use eggs , meaning don’t add pancake batter or other anything to the liquid). They seemed to confirm it was eggs only even though the encounter was a bit confusing (some language barriers). I had the omelette and a yogurt and felt fine.
Nothing marked GF, but you can ask and our server double checked with the kitchen to confirm options. I ended up going with chicken nachos (on appetizer menu) and they were delicious. I was assured the chips that are fried in site are in a GF frier. Didn't get sick, so I'd say dine with caution, but seems to be decent option in a pinch.
They have a separate gluten free menu, but most of the menu are just items that don’t contain gluten and are still heavily cross-contaminated. The wings are advertised as oven-baked on the gluten free menu but they are flash fried in a shared fryer at the end of the cooking process(this is NOT listed on the menu, the waitress told me and then I had a kitchen manager confirm) All of the fried foods are in shared fryers. The drinks were amazing, but the only thing I would consider eating from here is a burger with no bun since their advertising isn’t very accurate. I wouldn’t eat here if you have celiac, but they have a lot of options for those who are not sensitive to cross contamination!
