Delicious chocolate chip cookies and other GF treats- It is a little hard to find, tucked away on the boardwalk.
Sorry but I was disappointed during this visit. Perhaps this place is better for breakfast, we had dinner here. Terrible salad dressing for the salad (and we chose two and both were horrible), dry chicken on the salad, and my husband’s peanut noodle dish was pretty bad. On top of that, their response to my question about whether my celiac daughter could trust a fruit cup as being safe and not subject to cross contamination was disappointing (they had to check in the back and came back with the old “if your really sensitive maybe you shouldn’t eat it” routine. Hey, don’t put yourself out there as allergy safe with vegan, dairy free and gluten free options and not be able to back it up. I also find how they store and label their baked goods less than ideal and could see how someone could accidentally get glutened.
Knowledgeable about GF and CC. I got spaghetti and turkey meatballs, the consistency of the spaghetti was great. Very light and fluffy, not sticky or hard at all. They had a lot of options, complimentary homemade GF bread to start, and a plethora of GF desserts to choose from. Vegan options as well. I got a chocolate chip cookie, it was amazing!
July 2023 update - Just returned from our vacation. This time in addition to the baked goods, my daughter and I had a meal there. She had the GF spaghetti and turkey meatballs and I had the balsamic chicken rice bowl. Food was good and no one got sick. I asked and they said all GF items are prepped separately. Also got some muffins for the next morning. LOVE having this option on the boardwalk! We were recently on Point Pleasant boardwalk and there was NOTHING my daughter could eat.
Excellent spot on the boardwalk! Tried a few different gf baked goods and all were great. My daughter was so happy to have a spot on the boardwalk where she could get treats without having to worry about cross-contamination.
We eat here every year but yesterday my two kids who both have celiac split the turkey cheesesteak and got glutened. I told our server that we have a “gluten allergy”. We had to pull over 5 times on our drive back to PA for both of them to vomit. Bummed that this won’t be an option for us any longer.
I was going to order the gluten free focaccia. I have a severe treenut allergy, so I asked what flour they use in the bread since it’s not listed on the menu, and it is cashew flour! I cannot say whether the food is good or gluten free, but for anyone who has treenut allergies, definitely ask about the flour!
Many choices here and they make most of their bread in house. Muffins, scones, cookies, brownies, cupcakes in the bakery case. Gluten-free free waffle bowls available with the banana whip bowls which were delicious. Sandwiches (including an amazing breakfast sandwich) on gluten-free bagels, bread, Kaiser rolls. Portions were large. Staff seemed knowledgeable. Ingredients were listed on pretty much everything. We are here several times during our week long vacation and had no problems. Really appreciated this gem!
Great spot for breakfast! Hidden gem in OC for the gluten free community.
After reading all of the positive reviews about this place, we decided to check it out. Waitress was super friendly and very knowledgeable about celiac and cross contamination and assured me that all they had to do was write it down and the chefs would know what to do. Got an had a delicious “eggel” on a gluten free bagel! So good that we went back for dinner and the waitress (caught her name: Erin) was even better! Highly recommend for those with celiac and those who want to eat healthy!!
Great little cafe on the boardwalk!! Delicious food and friendly service!! Gluten free and vegan I highly recommend stopping in here.
Bashful Banana are the GF heroes of Ocean City. It is literally the ONLY celiac safe restaurant on the entire Boardwalk. They take GREAT care with their food to avoid cross contamination while offering a fantastic variety of GF foods. They serve sandwiches and burgers (only turkey and veggie) on fantastic store-made GF bread and rolls. Also salads, soups, wraps, desserts...this is the place. Thank you Bashful Banana!
PS- they are NOT cash only. I ate there 5 times last week and paid with credit card each time.
As one who has disaccharide intolerance and cannot tolerate many things, this place is amazing! First time going out in months and eating scrumptious treats that don’t hurt my stomach :) Have tried the Sunday Whip and Heidi’s Special. GF,DF, refined sugar free and tastes OUT OF THIS WORLD! Love love love :D My only complaint would be the bakery selections. Tried the brownie (decent flavor but horribly dry and stale), cinnamon duffin (dry and bland) and the pumpkin muffin (best of the three—slightly more moist, but lacked flavor). Would only go here for the whip.
Great service. Staff familiar with allergies and what was in their products. I’m gf df and had no problem ordering food and buying baked foods. They have a gf df rice wrap and homemade bread for sandwiches. Baked goods are mostly garbanzo bean flour based but tasted pretty good. Hey had non gf items in case with others but are individually wrapped.
Went early afternoon and they were pretty much sold out of everything gf. So I got two chocolate chip cookies that were pretty hard and tasted only okay. Will try to get there earlier in the day I guess to try more
Gluten free options like pancakes, French toast, waffles and more! Staff are knowledgeable about celiac disease and cross contamination. Highly recommend.
they were really busy when we went and the guy making the smoothies was a little rude. however, my kids all got a vegan chocolate avocado pudding that they loved. it was a fun treat for them. it wasn't my favorite but mainly because I'm not a huge banana fan but my kids loved it.
This place had a decent selection of gluten free baked goods (scones, muffins, brownies, cookies, duffins, etc.). My daughter was thrilled to find a place that had options she could eat! She had a blueberry scone and it was delicious!
I am so thankful for tasty GF food on the boardwalk! I have been here every summer for the last few years and always enjoy my food confident I will not get sick. Today I got the first cheesesteak (Turkey Bacon Turkey Cheesesteak) I have been able to eat on a roll in years and it was fabulous! The waitress knew all about the gf options and preparations so I was super confident about being totally gf. My mom isn't gf and still loved her food. I also grabbed some baked goods for tomorrow which I am excited to dig into!
Bought 2 gluten free muffins. Were very dry, only had a bite of each. Not good enough to finish. Disappointing.
I got a brownie and a cinnamon duffin. The duffin was a little dry but otherwise delicious and the brownie was awesome although maybe a bit rich for those who don't like chocolate as much as I do. Could have had a bit more choices with their gluten free stuff, most of their foods were just vegan friendly. But still great for when I forget to pack a dinner during work!! Most places on the boardwalk take too much time for a 30 minute break when I forget my food to prepare something gluten free.
NOTE: they are cash only!!
