Might be the best gf sandwich bread I’ve ever had. At first I ordered the caprese but staff told me it would have to be toasted in a shared oven and recommended I get a sandwich that didn’t require using the oven. Went with the La Jolla instead and was so happy with it that I went back and ordered it again the next day! Just be sure to mention you need your sandwich made in a clean area and not toasted and you should be good to go.

I had the surfin’ bird in the GF wrap and it was delicious. I even went back to get wraps to keep in the hotel fridge just in case I couldn’t eat somewhere else. I was so happy this place was close and kept me fed my whole vacation.

Sandwiches are DELICIOUS!! Would highly recommend. They don’t advertise gluten free on the menu but if you speak to the team they are able to offer a gluten free roll or wrap. Such a great find and reasonable in price.

I’m so glad I stopped in here. I did see them change gloves and I had a lettuce wrapped sandwich that was so good I was in heaven. It didn’t even need bread- this was as good as any sandwich I’d had in my previous (wheat-filled) life.

We stopped in to see if there were any gluten free options. Although it is not listed on the menu, they have GF buns and wraps. They were very careful And knowledgeable about CC. They prepped the sandwhich in a separate area and used separate ingredients.

Absolutely felt safe here! Gf roll is great. Apparently owners niece and nephew have celiac. All prepared separately. This is the place for safe gf sandwiches in the area!

Very experienced staff. Great service. GF orders are prepped in a seperate, dedicated station with seperate/cleaned utensils.

Their GF bread is SOFT and tasty. I think it's the best GF bread I've had at a sandwich place. Or ever.

The gluten free wrap is great! It lets you enjoy every sandwich they offer. When you order through the website you’re able to specify if you have a gluten allergy, and they have a separate prep station to avoid cross contamination. I will be back often!

While I’ve been burned at other locations, I’ve had nothing but good experiences at the San Mateo Beach Hut Deli. Whether ordering online or in person, when you select the gluten-free wrap or sub, they give you the option to select preference or allergy. Allergy orders are prepared separately with fresh ingredients, knife, etc., and I’ve always been safe. Just don’t have them toast the bread, as that’s going to bring in cross-contact. Try the Surfin’ Bird!
