UPDATE: 1/16/2022 I am super upset they no longer offer GF bread. I hadn't visited in two years due to covid and came back to a completely renovated place. The bakery counter has turned into a little counter and the menu has slimmed way down. They offer very limited GF treats and now I can no longer eat the majority of their menu. At least I was able to enjoy it while it lasted...

Original: MY FAVORITE PLACE TO EAT GF IN ATHENS. They always have gluten free bread which can be substituted for any dish that contains bread. It's also the best gf bread I have ever had. It's almost like Texas toast it's so good! Definitely recommend :) Plus the desserts are amazing.

They no longer have gluten free bread, and while the woman I called was clear and helpful, my only option was to order bacon or eggs or fruit a la cart.

NO LONGER HAS GF BREAD. They have stopped making in house gf bread, so the options are now very limited. It seemed fewer precautions are taken, although they did say they would change gloves/be conscious, etc. I don’t think I’ll go back. Nothing special without the GF bread and I didn’t feel entirely safe. I have a bit of an upset stomach, but it doesn’t line up with my usual gluten reaction so I can’t say anything for sure.

Several options for gluten free pastries and treats. Sign mentions that it is not made in a separate kitchen but I've never had a problem eating there

Food was delicious and the staff knew exactly what I could eat safely. They are a mixed kitchen but have specific pans used for gluten free items. Food was a bit expensive but I was happy with the options.

They bake their own gluten free bread and the toast is amazing. They offered to clean everything before making my meal and had gluten free baked goods at the front. 👍🏼👍🏼

Staff was knowledgeable. Not a huge selection, but they have a separate space for doing gluten-free.

Sometimes this place feels really rushed or perhaps under staffed which can make a gf person feel uneasy, like their needs may be overlooked in the chaos, but I really like the gf bread here and sometimes they have god gf bakery options (sometimes).

On Sunday the only gluten free option they have is some veggie dish but the kitchen manager said that with a severe allergy he could not promise that contamination wouldn't be an issue. There is no gluten free menu here but it seems that on day's other than Sunday they have gluten free toast.

Although this app says there is a GF menu, there is not. However, they do have a variety of GF pastries. The staff were very helpful and said that even though there's not a GF menu, I could order a sandwich made on lettuce. Overall, the service is exception and I would recommend it.

Most Gluten Free people would not expect to find a great dining option from a Cafe with the word "Bread" as part of its name, but that's probably because they haven't given Big City Bread Cafe a try. I rediscoverd Big City Bread because of its dessert! In my pre- Gluten Free days I had chowed down on a big juicy burger here, but never ordered dessert. Boy was I missing out.Recently, I had been on the hunt to find a flourless chocolate cake in Athens, Ga. If you've read my other posts, you have come to learn that I am probably the world's biggest chocolate fan - nothing could ever be too chocolatey for me. Flourless chocolate cake is like being able to eat 30 chocolate truffles in one sitting, but not feeling as guilty about it since it was just "one piece of cake".I found out from a google search of 'flourless chocolate cake in Athens" that I might be able to find what I was hoping for at Big City Bread. I came, I saw, I ordered, and I went to chocolate heaven! My husband and I were also pleasantly surprised by the intimate, quiet atmosphere the restaurant offered; I had only dined outside before. The prices there were very reasonable and the staff were very friendly. I looked at the full dinner menu before we left in hopes to dine here for a full meal in the future. One of the waitresses even took the time to make some menu suggestions for when we return that would be safe options. Looking forward to our next dining experience here.
