2021: Our server Kay understood the importance of my dietary needs and took every precaution. The atmosphere was lovely and the gluten free nacho item I picked was delicious, I did not have any adverse reactions. Gf food, service and atmosphere all a thumbs up. The chef is the owner and apparently takes great pride in his eatablishment. 2022: Update: returned this year and was a completely different experience did not even stay to eat, rude staff no interest in my dietary concerns.

My experience at Blu Moon started out a little rough but ended up great. The first two employees we met upon entering, the hostess and a server did not know the menu. I hadn’t called ahead because their website stated they had GF options. The employees told me the menu had been changed. We had just driven over 7 hours on our first day of vacation. We were both tired and hungry so we asked to be seated and I said I’ll just have salad. Thankfully, our server, named Alex, was fantastic. She knew the menu well even though it was only her second day on the job. There were quite a few GF options just as their website had said. I had the steamed shrimp, which were huge, corn, and coleslaw. Everything was fresh and delicious.

When the restaurant that I had picked to eat at turned out to be closed, we needed another option. There were a few items marked Gluten free and others marked as wheat free. I figured that nachos would be pretty safe and split them with my daughter. We did take out and there were utensils included. I felt a bit primarily eating soggy nacho chips and toppings with my fingers.

They tasted good and there were plenty to share. I have celiac and did not get sick.

They make no attempt to make a decent variety of gf options available. Watching their cleanliness from the stairway waiting area is scary.

Much of the food is fryer or bread based and there are not even gf buns despite years of requests. Very hard to eat with friends at this popular hangout.

Fried fish special was soggy. Poblano sauce was cheese goop with too little poblano to taste.

Just ask. My waiter was very knowledgeable but if he wasn’t sure he went back to ask the chef.

This weekend we are up in Ludington with some friends. They wanted to go out to dinner Saturday so did some research. We ended up at Blu Moon Bistro. They had multiple things listed as gf but not a ton of options. I ordered wings and a salad -both listed gf. The waitress tells me there are only a few wing sauces that are gf, none of which I liked so I just ordered a larger size salad. However, after I got my salad the waitress said there were no gf dressings. This is not mentioned on the menu. I wouldn't have ordered a salad if I had known this. We spoke with the manager about it and they did give me 50% off but the menu is not very clear. I explained to her that if you have something labeled on the menu as gf you need to write the exceptions and state that there is not dressing for the salad. Needless to say, I probably wouldn't recommend this restaurant if you're up in Ludington

They had some GF options but none for children. We had to order "off menu" and Chef did a nice job of grilling up some chicken but I got the sense we were putting them out a bit. Nice place. A little too fancy shmancy for me.

If you're looking for a formal dining experience with a touch of class, this is your place. Helpful, friendly & very knowledgable. GF items are specified in menu. I chose the Wild-Caught Chilean Salmon which was served in a savory broth. Delish! My formal restaurant of choice when in the area.
