I was excited to see the interesting menu labeled with GF options, but despite the labeling, delicious food, and having a trained chef, I believe there is a gap in understanding gluten and celiac. I could have been more vigilant on my end and investigated further, but I became slightly suspicious when I thought I tasted soy sauce in the Brussels sprout app, which was labeled as GF. Again, this is just a suspicion, and I should have asked about the ingredients. We told the waitress in the beginning I have celiac and can’t have gluten, and she brought us out a Creme Brûlée for desert with a wafer on top at the end. She took the wafer off and then said, ‘now it’s gluten free’ I had to explain cross contamination and celiac to her, and I was full and didn’t really care about having it (with a group of people sharing desert), but she was very kind and went back to get another. I don’t blame her. I think there is a lack of education that should be the chef’s responsibility for a place with a reputation for delicious, gourmet food. I am celiac, and I react to gluten with extreme bloating. Today, I am extremely bloated. I felt uneasy in my gut last night after I ate. I can’t prove I was glutened and I’ll admit the food was delicious, but if I were to take a chance and go back, I’d ask more questions about ingredients and explain my condition more thoroughly. The Gf labeling is suspect.

I have Celiac disease and got the Brisket nachos that were labeled gluten free on the menu and I even asked the server to tell the chef I am highly allergic to gluten. They promised me I was fine eating the brisket nachoes. I ended up in the er with gluten poisoning because the beans and the spices on the Brisket I found out later contained gluten. I do not recommend Blue Mabel if you are allergic to gluten.
