A diner I would never go to except that they do gluten-free well. Mediocre food. The place is crowded and not very clean. Big menu though.

Stopped for lunch while visiting son who lives in city. I had the gf mozzarella sticks which were wonderful!! The marinara was great too! I also had gf chicken tenders and gf fries. Both were very good. Will definitely go back on other visits. Huge gf menu with gf pasta, sandwiches, meals. They have regular menu for non celiac or non gf options.

There is a separate gluten free menu. I mentioned celiac and they didn’t even blink, just acknowledged and took care of it! I had grilled cheese that tasted like childhood. And French fries. And rice pudding. It was glorious.

Ate here every day for a week. Great gluten free menu. Small cross contamination issue one day when I did not specify I had celiac disease. I’m quite sensitive and have celiac disease.

Staff delightful, terrific diner food. Have two kids with celiac, have eaten here more than a dozen times and never an issue. Substantial gluten free menu including things like pasta, burgers, pancakes, fries, chicken fingers, mozzarella sticks. Would highly recommend for gluten free and non gluten free eaters.

Wonderful gluten-free menu with substitute for practically everything on the regular menu. Spaghetti, sandwiches, mozzarella sticks, waffles, pancakes, English muffins, and of course the usual soups and salads were all present on the menu, and all tasted great.

When you walk in, it looks a bit dinky, but the food was amazing and they had lots of celiac-friendly gf options. I definitely plan to go back. The eggs florentine were especially good.

Celiachead- if you see this, please please please report this to the manager. I am very surprised that you had this experience, my family has always been treated well there, and its one of the few places we eat, and a favorite of my son's. If there is a bad apple there making the place less safe, help out the Celiac community and let the manager know so he can ensure that he has no one on his staff who makes the establishment less safe for the gluten free community. I think we provide a great deal of their business. I think he will take it seriously.

I have eaten here three times in the past three months but will never again. I have celiac and my friend doesn't, but the waiter brought our food with both plates on one hand, the gluten food on top. The meat from the (gluten) Reuben sandwich was touching my gluten-free pancakes. I pointed it out to the waiter, and he contradicted me "No, it's not." It was, my friend also noticed it. By then, the waiter had placed our food in front of us. I told the waiter that I have celiac and cannot eat food that has touched anything that may have touched bread. He said that it hadn't. My friend reiterated that I was allergic and couldn't eat the food. After all this back and forth (too long!), the waiter finally yielded, but very rudely. He said, "Fine, we'll throw this in the garbage and make you a new plate." I should have complained to the manager, but I didn't want to make a scene. I'm sad to lose this diner because it's hard to find a celiac-safe diner. But I'd rather keep searching than risk eating here.

I actually came to this restaurant twice over the weekend. It was by far the best gluten free restaurant experience I have ever had! Being diagnosed with celiac disease back in April and being miserable after eating out every single time I had kind of given up on eating out at restaurants until I found this gem! The coolest part is they have a sticker on that door that says they are a participating gluten free restaurant. They have their own gluten free menu, cook my food separately, and even bring my food out separately! I could actually have a cheeseburger on toast French fries and banana pancakes that actually tasted normal! So delicious, you nailed it Cafe 82! 😊

AMAZING MEALS!!! The GF Menu is extensive. They practice GIF protocols and even deliver the GF meals separate. First time since Celiac DX, 7 years ago, that we have enjoyed mozzarella sticks. GF fries and bread are out of this world. Will likely revisit before leaving the city!

Awesome service. Awesome food. They have a separate gluten free menu with lots of choices. The banana walnut pancakes and scrambled eggs were great, but the Turkey bacon was mediocre. Husband ate from regular menu and enjoyed his food except the Turkey bacon.

Solid diner food with big portions. They've been very good about my allergy whenever I go, which is frequent. Highly recommend the waffles. The sandwiches I've had are so-so but they make good fries.

It was so exciting to be able to actually eat things such as mozzarella sticks French onion soup and chicken fingers. They have a separate fryer for gluten free items. I went several times while staying in New York. Dinner breakfast and a few deliveries. This made traveling with celiacs very easy. Great staff and great food.

When I was diagnosed with celiac 3 years ago I thought I'd never be able to enjoy true diner food again. Cafe 82 proved me wrong! Huge gf menu, including chicken tenders and fries cooked in separate fryer, and complete understanding of cross contamination. One of the few non-gf-only restaurants I can really trust. Perfect for eating out with non-gf friends.

For a cafe, gluten free options are amazing! I was so thrilled to find good gluten-free French Toast. The food came out promptly even on a busy morning. My mom ordered a burger on gf bread with fries and was also very satisfied. Can't wait to try their other gf options! (photo attached)

It's always a good sign when restaurant staff thinks the very idea of not avoiding cross contamination is absurd. My meal came with fries so when I ordered I asked if they were cooked in a separate fryer, and the waiter goes, "of course. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense." Separate GF menu with many options. Friendly staff and prices are not bad for the area. Food is average, but honestly that's what you're looking for at a diner, and it's nice to have that option again.

I ate here with my seven year old son who has Celiac and my parents. It's a diner, which we never thought we'd be able to do again. It was our first time eating in a restaurant without a dedicated kitchen. I can't speak to how safe it actually is because I wouldn't know if there was accidental contamination, but I can speak to how safe they helped me to feel. There was an exclusive gluten free menu of several pages. We were told they cook everything separate and were warned that our food would take a long time because of that. Since it was an off hour, we really didn't wait very long. My son enjoyed the French toast, (which we were able to order with real maple syrup!) and I enjoyed a pasta dish with goat cheese and veggies. They use Barilla pasta and it was good with a large enough portion to take some home for lunch the next day. My Dad enjoyed their gluten free chocolate chip pancakes, and my Mom, an omelette. The service was friendly and efficient. All in all, I was impressed. Just the desserts didn't sound great and we didn't order any.

ordered gf french toast, given 4 pieces of bread with cinnamon+ sugar, but no egg wash! $11 for cinnamon toast is quite pricey I think. Does seem like they are safe for celiac however.

Yummy GF pancakes (with and without chocolate chips) and GF french toast. Ate breakfast here on Sunday, 11 August 2013 at about 10:30 AM. A little pricy. Cafe is small and has a limited number of tables for parties of 3 or more.

I enjoyed cafe 82 until a recent experience. The waiter accidentally gave me regular french onion soup and my friend the gf. He told me distinctly that mine was gf. Three bites in I realized the mistake since there is no gf substitute that tastes like rye bread. The waiter kept saying that it was not his fault and how did I know it was not gf!! Thankfully, it wasn't enough to equal a hospital trip, just felt really crappy for a day or so....

By far, the best gluten free dining experience on the Upper West Side. The staff is kind, friendly, and knowledgeable and the food is amazing! I have tried the pancakes in the morning, the burger for lunch, and pasta at dinner. EVERYTHING on the gluten free menu is delicious and what I remember to taste like before I was diagnosed with Celiac 8 years ago. LOVE LOVE LOVE this place!
