They seem to be careful if you mark allergy alert and have great gluten free options but beware their tortilla chips use to be gluten free but they switched brands so they are no longer safe to eat (which kind of sucks and is scary for anyone assuming they are still safe)
I am so happy to be living back in Oregon so I can have Yumm bowls again!! The sauce is seriously addictive and a medium bowl always leaves me happily full in an "I have the energy to tackle the rest of my day" kind of way, rather than an "I just want to go home now and watch an entire series on Netflix in one sitting" kinda way.
This place has potential, but it would be exceedingly helpful to have allergens indicated on the menu. Plus, are we sure the soy based dishes are actually gluten free? GMO safe?
Small portions for the price. They messed up our daughters' orders and said some things were safe to eat, then said maybe not. We won't go back.
Lots of gluten free options. Really healthy and tastes great. The Yumm sause is so good.
I have celiac disease and I am highly sensitive but I've never had issues here. I think they are pretty aware of food allergies and preferences. This is basically the only "fast food" place I trust because I have been many times and I'm never disappointed!
Great option at the airport!
I have eaten here at least 3 times without any issues. I have found the employees to be knowledgeable and helpful. They always mark my order as "allergy" and prepare it separately with fresh gloves. I have celiac disease and I'm also a dietitian so I'm very careful. I always get the traditional Yumm bowl.
I have eaten at the airport Cafe Yumm three times without getting sick. I'm a dietitian who also has celiac disease. The employees aren't particularly knowledgeable, but if you explain your needs clearly, they will mark your order as "allergy". They change gloves before preparation. I always get the traditional yum bowl.
Great for lunch. I crave the Yumm sauce!
They continued to try to give me a wheat bun saying it was gluten free. They thought that every bun was gluten free. Obviously I will not be returning. I was too afraid of getting sick to eat the burger I actually got.
They really seem to understand gluten free. They have a binder with their gluten free menu. They even had gluten free soups which I could of tried, but I went with an original bowl with chicken. They have many organic and non gmo ingredients!
yummy rice bowls. would return if in the area or if the franchise is expanded to other locales.
gluten free at the airport! got a breakfast bowl and something for the plane. knowledgeable person at the counter. felt very safe
Didn't know about this place really but this is the coolest place. Loved it!! We were looking for a place to eat out and this place came up so I called, seemed very knowledgeable and very accommodating. Will be returning again and felt safe and the food was good.
Great yumm sauce! Lots of allergy safe foods for many allergies.
So yummy. Lots of gluten free. Lots of other allergy free too.
Update 2016 I've increased my rating because they finally have plain grilled chicken as a protein option. Finally after 4 years!! They also have gf Atlas Cider on tap as part of the $10 bowl & brew combo. Sweetness!!! And gf cookies for dessert. 2012 Good food but all the meats are marinated in gluten based sauces so your only protein is tofu and I'm not at all fond of soy.
I needed some food on-the-go, and happened to be at Target nearby. I remembered friends mentioning this place, checked this handy app, and it looked safe. I had the original bowl, and added chicken. I also bought a packet of the crunchy noodles - they seem to be the same product I've purchased at Whole Foods before, just with a Cafe Yumm label. I've had celiac disease for years, but don't eat out much. I never thought to ask about the chicken in tacos at places like Baja Fresh and Koi Fusion, but after getting sick after eating both, learned that the chicken is often marinated in soy sauce, and therefore not gluten free. Whoops. When I asked about the chicken, the gal ringing me up wasn't sure, and asked her co-worker. He said the original chicken was gluten free, but that there was another kind of chicken that wasn't. He then directed her to a binder where she could find this information. So it's good to know that exists. I'm glad I asked. I'll definitely return to this place next time I'm in a pinch and need some fast food on-the-go.
I love cafe yumm. It's my fast food. I can't eat gluten or dairy so they will sub out the dairy with more avocado. I love to bring home a bottle of the sauce and make yumm bowls at home. Beans, rice, veggies and sauce. Delicious!
I had the original bowl, it was very good. The staff is aware of celiac and the need of not cross contamination. My husband, who is not celiac, had the gluten free turkey sandwich which was also very good. Very clean restaurant and great staff
Gluten free bowls of Yumm! I had a bowl full of rice, beans, Yumm sauce, avocado, olives, tomato and chicken. Healthy and delicious! I was told they were prepared in a separate part off the kitchen with clean gloves and while cross contamination is a possibility they work really hard to avoid it.
Delicious bowls and other GF items. Soups, sandwiches, etc. Vegetarian & vegan friendly. Highly recommend!
Great simple food. Brown rice bowls with a variety of yummy toppings. Lots of vegetarian and vegan options. We bring out of town guests here to eat what we consider west coast soul food. They have recipe lists at every register and helpful staff. A great place for kids too.
The sauce was very good. It was very expensive considering the poor service and small amount of food. I paid extra for avocado and got three tiny squares. The rice was cold and the chicken was rubbery from the microwave. Maybe I was there on an off day, but I won't risk spending that much again. I'll buy the sauce at the store.
Original Yumm bowl is gluten free. And delicious!!!
My husband is a physician here in Bend Oregon who specializes in Celiac Disease and other gastrointestinal/autoimmune disorders. As a celiac myself (with numerous food allergies), I work with my husband educating the public about the world of gluten-free living and helping newly diagnosed patients transition into a gluten-free lifestyle. We regularly visit restaurants around Bend in order to stay up-to-date on the best restaurants to recommend to our gluten-free patients. We’ve visited Café Yumm in Bend on numerous occasions and have always had decent experiences at this facility. My husband even took the time to visit with the local owner and question on the preparation processes and assess the risk of cross contamination. He was very impressed with steps that Cafe Yumm takes to keep the facility safe for those with gluten sensitivities and other food allergies. Their Yumm bowls are delicious and gluten free. Made up of black beans and brown rice with fresh tomatoes, black olives, avocado, salsa, cheese and sour cream with the Yumm sauce mixed in. Absolutely yummy! They are my go to fast food restaurant in Bend.
