They have a separate gluten-free menu, which is very nice. On this are a lot of dishes to choose from. The waiter did let me know that the kitchen is not a coeliac dedicated kitchen so they cannot guarantee that there will be no contamination. I had the Fish taco. Unfortunately I did had a reaction afterwards. So I would not recommend for coeliac or high sensitivity.
Server seemed terribly harried, which worried me, but did bring me a GF menu when I asked, and warned me not to eat the chips automatically brought to the table (then how are there nachos on the GF menu??). I had mango chicken with corn tortillas with no problems, and was pleased to get a cocktail with La Pinta pomegranate tequila.
We had so much fun here for lunch! Our server was really nice. They have a dedicated gluten free menu including tortilla chips made in a dedicated fryer. I had delicious pork tacos in corn tortillas with a strawberry daiquiri and they offer margaritas too (of course). Cost about $40. Walking distance from Old Town.
Gluten free chips from a different fryer. Ordered the grilled fish tacos with a side of rice off the gluten free menu. It Nima tested positive for gluten. Also ordered a corn tortilla quesadilla for my daughter and it came out as a flour tortilla. Most of the table was done eating before they brought her the correct one. Manger came out after I sent the Nima tested plate away, but I didn’t want anything else since I did not feel like their kitchen was trustworthy.
We called ahead to see if they could accommodate and they said that they have a separate area for gluten free. I have celiac. When we arrived they did have a gluten free menu with quite a few options. I ordered the chicken fajitas. I asked the waiter a couple of times how they prepared gluten free. He said it would be gluten free but did not seem to understand my question. He then asked if I wanted flour or corn tortillas. Clearly he did not understand gluten free. I specified corn and then reminded him to mark for allergy. The food was pretty good. I did not like the corn tortillas but they were okay. The rest was good. I did not have any issues and am still fine the next day. I felt pretty confident since we had called ahead and got reassuring information.
I got glutened, I’m sure it was mild cross contamination because I only have a decent stomach ache (y’all know the one). The staff was accommodating and was knowledgeable about it so I’m surprised it happened. I read many people on here say it’s fine so maybe my experience an exception but it was the reason we choose this place even though we knew it wasn’t the best around. I don’t know if I would say I discourage going here because they do have protocols, but i wouldn’t personally recommend it.
Was excited to try the gluten free menu at Casa Guadalajara! I got a Mexican chopped salad that was delicious but as I was transferring my leftovers into a to go container I discovered a giant chunk of flour tortilla in the bottom of the salad. They must have plated it on a flour tortilla shell shell initially and then realized it needed to be gluten free and transferred it to another dish. I was so bummed! The manager was apologetic and took the item off of the bill but I'd be concerned about cross contamination if you go here!
Knowledgeable staff and accommodating Easy when it’s a separate menu for GF
Wonderful food! Fast service that was amazing. Separate gluten free menu with separate gluten free chips upon request. The servers checked in frequently to make sure all was well. No one has had a tummy ache and it has been 24 hours since eating there…highly recommend.
Really cool place near Old Town that friends invited me to. Was much more GF-friendly than I expected. Ask for GF tortilla chips! They told me the regular tortilla chips they bring you are NOT GF and they brought me another basket that was. They also gave me a separate GF menu with lots of options. Unfortunately I didn't notice there was more on the back until after I ordered! But I was still very satisfied with my Chicken Fajitas and steamed corn tortillas. I hope they eventually put the GF menu on their website. We ate outside in the courtyard that has a fountain and a big tree. Overall a great experience! And I was not glutened as far as I know, but I have the type of Celiac where I don't get obvious reactions.
We just ate here again April 2019. Fabulous food. Separate GF menu. My daughter ordered the pork tacos. She loved them and was not sick afterwards. Photo attached. She said she liked the beans too.
Two years ago: Delicious Mexican food. Outstanding!! My daughter has celiac and is highly sensitive to gluten. We've eaten here twice and she has been fine both times. They have a separate GF menu and they brought her her own basket of chips and salsa for a starter. Great GF selection. Our #1 choice when traveling to San Diego.
Surprised by the wait at 4:00pm on a Sunday. We were served fresh chips from a separate fryer . Server was very understand accommodating. I have a picky 10 year old that wanted nachos supreme without everything (just cheese and sour cream). The server brought my daughter cheese and sour cream to put on her chips. They also have a separate gf menu. Very family friendly!
Asked the hostess for a GF menu and they immediately asked if I needed GF chips as we sat down and then brought me my own chips and salsa (Nima approved). I got the grilled fish tacos with black beans. Food was awesome, service was awesome, and I finally got to eat out like a normal person.
Separate g-free menu always gives me confidence a place knows what it means. Server seemed to know the importance of the g-free requests, eg brought corn chips instead of regular tortilla chips without being asked. Great authentic Mexican food, HUGE portions! And a gorgeous place with lovely atmosphere. So happy to find it, we will be making it a family favourite.
Was amazing!!! BIG serves, really helpful staff and the food was divine. Thank you!!!!
Both my daughter and I are gluten intolerant. We were thrilled with this find. There is a separate gluten free menu and separate gluten free chips. The service is outstanding. They really work as a team to make sure you are taken care of. We ate here two days in a row on our vacation and we did not get sick either time. We had the gluten free tamales, the seafood tacos, and the mexican salad. All delicious. We also had a dessert option, the flan. It was wonderful too. The atmosphere is great. I highly recommend.
Just left. So good!!!! Make sure to ask for the gluten free tortilla chips for the separate, gluten free menu! Had the ceviche and fish tacos. So freakin happy right now! The house margarita aren't worth it, go with something a little more expensive or just order your tequila straight up ;)
