Got the fried shrimp and fish. It was delicious as usual. Just make sure to tell them no bread
The fried food here is all gluten-free. We had the fried calamari and the sea food platter with French fries and Cole slaw. The food was very tasty and not greasy at all. It is a small restaurant with peculiar hours as to when it is open. It is like an old time small New Orleans type restaurant. I would recommend trying it.
All their fried food is GF (and there is a lot of it!). The majority of their menu is GF (seafood grilled or fried, French fries). They modify the “large plates & dinners” to be GF by not putting bread on them. The fried seafood wasn’t greasy at all and was great. The “C” fries are also GF, and they are just covered in same stuff that’s on the chargrilled oysters (I believe is garlic butter & Parmesan). Great experience
A charming little gem of a place with lots of history. We visited on opening day for the start of oyster season, and I couldn't have been happier with my meal. I had oysters 3 ways - raw, chargrilled, and fried, and everything was very tasty. The girls serving are super sweet and very understanding of celiac disease/ the need to eat GF. Dedicated fryer is a big plus.
gf fried oysters. i don’t need to say anything else. i have long missed old school louisiana seafood joints and my lil soul is ecstatic to have one i can go to, finally!
We wanted fried seafood and were so excited when we found this place on the app. They’ve been featured on drive in, diners and dives twice and have been in business for 105 years. All seafood is gluten free leaving lots of options and the staff is very knowledgeable. One thing to note is they are cash only. But on the upside, they do have two gluten free beers! We loved our visit and would definitely come back.
I was really excited to get gluten free fried food but I was disappointed by this restaurant. The service was terrible and when I went to the bathroom (which I had to pass through the kitchen to get to) I saw how tiny the kitchen was and they use regular bread. I felt sick after eating and knew I was cross contaminated here. It’s nice to get gluten free fried food but I don’t think it’s safe here for celiacs.
We went for dinner and let the waitress know I was celiac, she responded by saying she's been dealing with celiacs longer than most people have known about it. I got the grilled shrimp and fries and tried one fried oyster. Everything was delicious and it's a gluten free kitchen minus the bread. We had the kitchen change gloves before plating my dinner and turned out great
I love eating here so much that on our last trip to New Orleans I drove away from Tulsa and set Google maps for Casamento’s. I phoned when about 30 minutes out to let them know what I would be ordering for carry out. They dropped the order when I walked into the restaurant so that it would be fresh, and I had a wonderful fried seafood dinner on the deck of my Airbnb a short time later. My husband and I particularly love the cat fish, oysters, and shrimp.
Being in NOLA, it was very exciting to find a place that makes all of their fried seafood gluten free!! The food was all tasty, but the raw oysters were definitely the best! Above all the atmosphere and staff really stood out, they were friendly and fun and made me feel safe to eat! This is clearly an old and classic restaurant run by people who really love food!
Incredible fried seafood! I had the shrimp and catfish. I will dreaming about it for the rest of my life I think. Delicious.
As the other reviews indicate, GLUTEN FREE FRIED FOOD! This is also written in multiple places on their menu.
However, it was not good fried seafood. I miss fried food as much as the next Celiac, but I was pretty disappointed with the fried oyster, crab claws, shrimp, and catfish plate.
Also, I was very bloated after eating here. Not sure if that meant I ate too much or if I had a reaction? Either way, I won't be back.
I ordered the fried shrimp dinner which comes with french fries, a pickle, and bread. I let our server know I had celiac and asked for them to leave they bread off my plate. She knew her stuff and was very friendly. I could not believe my meal was celiac safe because it looked too good to be true. I haven’t had any reactions and will definitely be back!
A deep-fried dream for people with celiac. The staff was warm and welcoming and knowledgable. We had someone with celiac (me), someone gluten intolerant, and someone with no gluten issues at our table, and the food waitress was able to cater to all our needs. I wanted to cry, the fried seafood platter was so good—dedicated fryer, so no worries there. Also highly recommend the oysters (raw and charcoal grilled), and fries.
Have eaten at Casamentos 5 or 6 times without a problem. All fried seafood is gluten free. They have Redbridge beer. On my last visit, they had a continuous line quite literally out the door, so early is best for lunch. Our server (the owner) was very attentive. The only modification to the seafood platter is to ask for no toast. As busy as they were, the owner came out of the kitchen to tell me that a piece of toast had accidentally been put on my plate and asked if I was celiac. They made me a new plate no problem. 5 stars.
All fried seafood and french fries are gluten free!!! They also have gluten free beer. We had the fried crab claws appetizer and fried oyster dinner - what a treat!!! This place is an institution. It's very casual but Zagat rated. Cash only. They take a long summer vacation - not a bad idea to call before going.
Amazing food and service! Staff was very knowledgeable. The oyster stew is fabulous. The fried oysters are the best I’ve ever had. Fried shrimp was super delicious. Fries are also safe and so good. Highly recommend!
Didn't get sick, had the seafood platter, fried everything and fries all safe. But I had to give it 4 stars because it was a little bit of a grouchy place, I was afraid to ask questions. They're cash only. To get to the bathroom you walk through the kitchen and behind the people cooking and frying things. It's a little sketch back there. Also you really should try to get there as they open because the line barely moves after that. Took a very long time to get our food. Had raw oysters first and they were not cleaned properly which made me regret ordering them. Also, what we ordered was quite expensive for them to just be throwing everything in a fryer, but that's just one person's opinion. Make sure they don't put bread on your plate!
I felt like royalty the first time I went to this resturaunt. The waitress understood I have Celiac, and was cautious to keep bread away from my plate. She was very friendly and helpful. Sadly, the second time I went, the waitress blamed the bread under my gf seafood on the kitchen and suggested I eat around it. Make sure you insist on no bread on your plate!
great fried food. service can be spotty. they have given me bread on my food a couple of times. check website to make sure they are open.
In a city full of great seafood, casamento has stood the test of time by staying in business since 1919! luckily, even this classic has updated over time to accommodate all diners and their seafood batter is now gluten-free! So there's no reason not to indulge in a seafood platter full of oysters, shrimp, crab claws, trout and French fries!
