There is no menu. I informed the manager that I have Celiac Disease and asked what gluten free options they had. The manager seemed thrown off by the question. It was a Saturday at 6:00 pm and the restaurant was extremely busy, so I can assume that is why the manager did not offer to personally walk me around the salad bar to point out what is safe and what isn’t like some of the other reviews had said. He told me that the tabouli, mashed potatoes, pasta salad, croutons, all salad dressings, chicken legs, bacon wrapped chicken, and the lamb was not safe to eat. However, he did NOT seem confident in his answer and said he would check with the chef but never came back. I have been to Chama multiple times but this was the first since being diagnosed and was disappointed in the lack of knowledge or confidence from the manager.
When asking about the dessert options, the waiter seemed a lot more knowledgeable. He said only the flan and creme brûlée were gluten free. When I asked if the papaya creme was gluten free (which I would assume it is) he said that he couldn’t 100% say it was safe because the ice cream is not made in house. The flan and creme brûlée are made in house so they know exactly what goes inside. I truly appreciate the waiter being extra cautious about the desserts.
Despite the manager’s lack of knowledge, I do believe this is a safe restaurant for someone with Celiac Disease and a very slim chance of cross contamination.
There were only a couple of things with gluten and they tell you what they are. This place was amazing
Pricey, but they have wonderful food and virtually everything is gluten-free including the bread.
