China Garden Restaurant

Do not go here. We ordered gluten free chicken and broccoli, rice, and chicken teriyaki. We were told the whole order is gluten free. When I got home I noticed (after taking several bites) that the chicken and broccoli came with brown sauce (which has gluten in it) and an appetizer that we were told was gluten free but it was cooked in a shared fryer. I called and Christine yelled at me on the phone saying she told my husband it had gluten in it and he said it was ok. None of this is true. She made me another meal for him to come pick up. When he did, she charged him for the replacement meal! Then she told him the original order was gluten free! My head is spinning! I have never been treated this way from any glutened order, (usually there’s some sort of “sorry for the misunderstanding how can we accommodate?”) nevermind something they claimed was “accidental” and then denied altogether! Definitely avoid!! They do not understand accommodating dietary needs.

We came to this restaurant because of a recommendation from the owner of a nearby gluten free bakery. She told us to ask specifically for the owner, Christine, who was very willing to find gluten free options and understands the precautions needed for celiac.

We did as suggested, and Christine was indeed knowledgeable and gracious. She indicated she would make our food personally after washing the wok and all the utensils. She indicated that with advance notice many things could be made gluten free, but since we arrived on a Saturday dinner rush, she was more limited. She checked with us for general preferences and other allergies and then asked us to trust her to make something for us.

The food was great!

Christine also eats gluten free (not celiac) and clearly had researched all her ingredients. She also indicated everything was made by her, with minimal processed food.

We will be back!
