Chiodo has a lovely, hip setting and great atmosphere, and the staff were prepared to cater to gluten free guests, if not always fluid / experienced. They repeatedly tried to put down a bread basket and had to be reminded about the celiacs, yet they had packaged gf bread to serve with our cheese plate, had a good selection of gf items across the menu including gf pasta substitutions, and they were knowledgeable about ingredients & gluten. The confusion is in part due to the fact that there are three servers, each with a particular role: one person who seats, brings water, bread, etc., one person who does wine, and one person who does food exclusively. Although it’s normal for there to be a host, a waiter and a sommelier, there were some communication difficulties working with all three. However, my husband ate safely and extremely well despite needing to remind them a few times about the bread basket :) From a purely culinary perspective this was the most delicious and exciting cuisine we had in Siracuse, on the whole the experience is worth the extra effort with communication. The pork belly with creamed potatoes was exceptional, as was the candied squash dessert - although the menu is seasonal and might change. It’s good to get a reservation or come early as they are very popular.
