I ordered the cheeseburger with a gf bun and the server assured me that the fries were gf as well. Food was good, not the best burger I’ve had but I felt great after which is a always a win

One of the best allergy experiences I’ve had. I was very excited to try their gf crab crakes and told the server my allergies (gluten, dairy, and soy)
The chef/owner came out to the table and noticed the crab cakes had soy from the Mayo. He came up with a few ideas but I said I was fine. He ended up making my own special meal AND comped the meal! The service here was above and beyond and I cannot recommend it enough!

Great food, gluten free safe and MANY options like wings and potato skins!! I had the crab legs and they were good, however, we had a horrible waitress who disrespected me and my party. I asked about the dipping butter if it were gf and she rudely said “it’s butter” but anyone who has celiac and is as severely allergic as me should know butter is not just butter. From then on she was snarky and seemed unpleased to serve us. Food was still awesome though so just hope you don’t get our waitress!!

One of the best gluten free restaurants I have found on the Outer Banks. I cannot tolerate cross-contamination and have never had an issue here over 10 or so visits. They have dedicated fryers, gluten free items are marked on the menu, and servers are knowledgeable and considerate. Highly recommend.

The wait was long but so worth it!! There is a place to watch live music while you wait. My celiac son had the potato skins and tropical chicken without any issues. There are many options for gf choices. Our waitress was very knowledgeable and patient with us. We cannot wait to go again.

One of the best seafood places on the OBX! The menu has all the foods marked that were GF and ignore the website the actual menu has more options! My waitress was very nice and understanding. They have a dedicated fryer for French fries, crab cakes, various appetizers and more. I was able to have many things I can’t normally eat and as a sensitive celiac I promise it was safe! I ordered the famous crab cakes and was able to have fries :) there were many other delicious things on the menu like tropical chicken and scallops (which are famous by guy fieri!!!) there was also a few desserts like crème brûlée and peach cobbler that were safe! Amazing service, only downside is the hour wait but it’s worth it! Great music and outdoor areas, very popular with everyone in Duck!

So many options! There is more on the gf menu in the restaurant than it shows on the online menu. We had the camel wings, shrimp and grits, seared scallops, crab cake dinner and the chocolate torte and peach cobbler all GF. Food was delicious and my celiac daughter had no reaction.

Coastal Cravings will definitely be a place that we will be coming back to for a celiac allergy! From the live music to our knowledgeable waitress Leah our experience was wonderful! I tried the tropical chicken which was delicious! It came with two well portioned chicken breasts. I requested the pineapple mango chutney on the side and I’m glad I did because I’m not a huge fan of spicy foods. Sautéed vegetables were included as well and I had a side of jasmine rice. Overall, the meal was scrumptious and I had leftovers to bring home with me!

Super delicious find. Celiac safe! All our meals were delicious and the staff were very helpful. They had a dedicated fryer and were able to make us the Mahi bites and French fries safe. Crab cakes were the best I might have ever had.
Location is a little off putting being attached to a gas station, but won’t let that change your mind. Such a great place!

Based on the other reviews it’s sounds like lunch is the best choice for this place. We went for dinner & my mouth was watering for the crab cake sandwich or burger. Sadly I learned that those weren’t available for dinner. We had the shrimp & grits and the chicken Marsala. Both very average & lacking.

Ordered to-go twice now, both of the sandwiches really great! Pulled pork the one time, and a burger the other. The buns were GF and good GF buns at that. Had two different French fries - shoestring and a thicker cut fries, which I’m sure would have been better had I eaten in the restaurant. Very much looking forward to going back for an in restaurant dining experience!

Next to a gas station but don’t let that stop you .. place is awesome - they were also featured on one of those Guy Ferrari shows.

Went for lunch and it was pretty busy. The server was nice and aware of gluten issues but was a little casual/flip. There seemed to be some distractions/drama (crying and little clustering/whispers) among the staff that added to a bit of the atmosphere.
She assured us she would mark everything as “allergy”. Our appetizers (prepped shrimp and Mahi bites) were brought out by two other servers who plunked them down. We questioned the mahi bites because they didn’t look right but one of them kind of snapped “yeah those are mahi bites” and walked off. Looking at them more, it was clearly the fried cauliflower (literally shaped like a floret) which is not GF. I got up to walk back to the kitchen and was intercepted by another server (not ours) who just grabbed the basket and said she’d be back with the mahi bites. Our server brought them out and assured us she was back on track.
The rest of the meal was fine. We got crab cake sandwiches with the gf buns. Fries, potato salad, and slaw were all ok.

(2022) Still a fan of the crab cake and the lobster roll (on an udi’s bun). Daughter had a cheeseburger today and fries (separate fryer!), she really like it. Just ate off of the lunch menu this trip, there are different options available if you come 5pm or later, as they’re pretty strict on not starting the dinner service until then.
(2019) It was okay. Everything was prepared safely which gives it a solid high star rating (plus there are fries in a separate fryer, which the kids always love). Out of the 4 gluten free dishes ordered to our table I was the only one that really liked mine (steak and crab cake). The crab cake itself gives it 5 stars though, like many of the reviewers mentioned, it’s really yummy! (Also, check out the little tap room back behind the restaurant - cute spot with hammocks, live music and some Tito’s! I believe you can order from Coastal Cravings full menu out there as well).

I haven’t had a crab cake in almost 8 years, it was phenomenal!!! Their GF bun was delicious, they have a separate fryer. Their fries were GF too. The mahi mahi Buffalo bites were probably the best thing I ate all week!!!! It was also featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dash which makes sense since its connected to a gas station. Dog-friendly patio is a plus!!

Honestly the crab cakes are the best I’ve ever had. They are super expensive in my opinion, but they’re so dense and full of crab aka delicious! The rémoulade is just the icing on top and really makes the dish. I also like their gf buns…not sure which brand they use. Delicious!! For real…these crab cakes are a MUST HAVE in OBX.

Mahi bites were delicious! Scallops were good. I wish I could have tried the crab cakes/fries, but we didn't have time. The menu did not state that there was a separate fryer and it labeled the foods as "gluten friendly", so I was a little nervous. I wouldn't have ordered if not for the reviews here. I did not get sick. My daughter is also GF, there wasn't anything on the menu that would appeal to her (and probably most kids).

This was my second time back (after initially coming 3 years ago) and it was just as good as I remembered! There was a long wait to eat and there was only seating outside (prob due to COVID) but luckily there was a band and the tap shack was open to have some drinks beforehand. I got the filet with a baked potato and veggies and it was delicious! The waitress was well informed and could tell me what I could and couldn’t have. I will be back my next time in OBX!

Went for dinner and lunch. Amazing food. Had crab cake dinner, wings, and potato skins all so good. Our waitress was knowledgeable. The next day we went for lunch. Most sandwiches can be made gluten free and their rolls are great. We had a turkey and bri sandwich and a tomato basil pesto both great. Only a thing was our second waitress seemed less knowledgeable about gf items said potato salad might have gluten but didn’t offer to check. Still great good though. And fries are pretty good. In dedicated fryer could be crispier but at least they are GF!
