Ate at Comos for the first time tonight as we were headed to the Zoo and needed somewhere near by. My niece and I, both celiacs had the most amazing experience. Everything from the lovely atmosphere, super nice people, super safe kitchen with a separate oven even and then the pizza. Oh my!! The best I have ever had. Light airy and crispy on outside. I had to ask how they made it as I love to cook. And the spicy honey dipping sauce, while it sounds odd.. it was divine. We will definitely be back!! It’s like another reviewer said psychotically good.
Had the privilege of coming to Como's last night. The pizza is otherworldly. I used to be a big "bread head" before my diagnosis, and I really miss the fluffy bread texture that so many GF options lack. The crust here is DELICIOUS, just the right density, fluffy and NOT crumbly, and crisped on the outside. It's the only true gluten free Detroit style pizza I have been able to get- and it's hands-down the BEST pizza I've had as a celiac (and I travel a lot)!
Everything was clearly marked GF on the menu and the server advised me of other options that could also be prepared GF and celiac safe.
Green flags:
* Our pizza choice (Medical Weight Loss) contained an ingredient (meatballs) that were NOT Gluten Free. Someone from the kitchen came out with our ticket to advise us of this and suggest an alternate topping choice. It made me feel as though the kitchen was really diligently looking out for the gluten free orders!
* Each GF item came out on a separate tray with a "gluten free" label stick, so I knew it was safe even though the bread was TOO good to be true!
* The waitstaff is knowledgeable about celiac disease and when I asked questions about ingredients that our server wasn't sure about, she checked with the kitchen immediately (unfortunately I hadn't thought to ask about the meatballs, but the kitchen got my back!).
I highly recommend this restaurant. Seriously. I don't shut up about it. I come from Saginaw just to eat here. I keep pictures of the bread texture on my phone just to show other celiacs I come across so I can recommend it in person. I am a LOUD supporter of Como's. Check it out if you're in the area!
I’m usually not a fan of GF pizza. I read these reviews and thought I had to give it a try since so many people were claiming it was the best. OMG it seriously was! I felt like I was eating deep dish from jets. The waitress asked if it was an allergy and the pizza came out with tooth picks that said GF and allergy. It was great pizza and I can’t wait to go back.
Wow!!!!! The best deep dish pizza!! Can not believe it’s gluten free. The kitchen takes food allergies very seriously! This is a MUST if you’re GF and want pizza.
AMAZING. They have gluten free and vegan options and they understand it all. My boyfriend so tree nut free as well and they made notes. They came back and asked questions if they were unsure but everything turned out perfect. BEST GF DF PIZZA I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE. this is the fluffiest cheesy crust you'll ever get without the pain. We were able to enjoy drinks to fit our needs too. It's more costly for gf vegan but it's so worth it.
Edit: became extremely sick the next day. No clue as to what caused it. Would be a shame if this was a possible cause.
Como’s did a phenomenal job with all my allergies (gluten, dairy, tree nuts, oranges, apples, and strawberries). They have GF crust that is SO FLUFFY and vegan cheese. Their locally made sodas are also amazing. I could have pizza and soda with my boyfriend like a normal person, and it truly meant a lot. They even have little allergy and GF sticks for special order pizzas. Definitely will be going back.
HOLY MOLY! This place is amazing! Price matches what they put out. Getting a deep dish pizza was amazing enough, they also had a buy one get one deal and allowed GF to be included in that deal! The flavor was INSANE. They had knowledge about celiac and when I said it was for celiac they said “yeah, no problem”! I’m thinking of moving for this pizza alone.
BEST PIZZA EVER!!!! I was SO impressed. I have Celiac disease, and was blown away by the quality of the gluten free crust. I had to ask the waitress a couple times if it was gluten free because it was as thick as the regular crust! They did an excellent job with making sure my pizza was separate and prepared safely. I did not get sick, and no cross contamination occurred. This is by far the best gluten free pizza I've had since I was diagnosed with Celiac 13 years ago. I will be back!!
their gluten free pizzas are incredible!! i always left the waitstaff know before ordering that i have celiac and to let the kitchen know and they always personally go to the chef and tell them. i’ve never gotten sick here and its some of the best gluten free pizza in metro detroit i’ve ever had. will always go back
I had the GF pizza here while traveling for work a month ago and have not stopped thinking about it. GF or not it was one of the best pizzas of my life. I bought some Lloyds Detroit pizza pans immediately to try to find a way to recreate the magic at home in NY. Can’t recommend it enough.
I went there with 2 friends last night. We ordered 2 vegan gluten free pizzas (since we are all vegan and I have Celiac). The, apparently new, server put in the order incorrectly and we were given the standard, not gluten free version, which we all ate.
We double checked at the end since the crust and cheese was suspiciously good and once we found out the manager refunded the meal and reprimanded the server who took our order.
It is odd that this restaurant makes the vegan pizza gluten free by default so by putting in the order wrong it ended up being both not gluten free or vegan.
All 3 of us had digestive issues due to this and will not be going back. Exercise caution when going to this place. I know they have good reviews but each server is different! Make sure to double check when they give you your pizza!
Great gf pizza but it is very puffy for gf free so I did question it at first. The gf pizza is fluffier than the regular. Have done carry out/delivery a few times and they put a gf label of the gf pizza. It was delicious and I have never experienced any problems!
Finally tried Como's after reading all the positive reviews. I called ahead and they told me they have their own prep area and cutting area for gf pizzas, as well as dedicated pans to bake them in. Our server even told me that they are trained to carry allergen pizzas out specific ways (either on their own or raised above a regular pizza) so as not to cross contaminate. The gf pizza was AMAZING. It was crisp and airy and full of flavor. It was so delicious, I even double-checked with the server that it was, in fact, gluten free. I'm a very sensitive celiac and didn't have any reaction. I already can't wait to go back!
Im a celiac and this restaurant had the BEST deep dish pizza! The crust was super filling and tasty! Danielle was our server, and for Ferndale pride, her service was great!
Pizza was amazing! Best GF pizza we’ve ever had. My kids were so happy. Other GF options I had was the beet salad with chicken.
The bar tender has celiac and came over to explain all the GF offerings. The only mention of GF on menu is that they have GF buns and crust available. Most toppings for pizza were gf except the meatballs.
Pizza is prepared separately and is generally safe for those with celiac and gluten allergies. If you ask, they will walk you through the practices that they use to make sure your food is safe. No separate menu but lots of things on the menu are gf or can be made gf
EDIT: This place no longer has a dedicated fryer.
I decided to try this place after reading so many great reviews about it. Definitely the best gluten free Detroit style pizza I’ve had (better than Buddy’s & Cloverleaf for sure). The service was amazing, and they even mark things with sticks that say “gluten free” and “allergy.” I’ll also add, our waiter mentioned they make their crust using buckeye seed, I’m not sure if he meant buckwheat flour, but whatever they use the crust is amazingly fluffy. Have to try if in the area!
Awesome Detroit style pizza! The gluten-free crust was crisp on the outside and light on the inside not dense at all. The server seemed very knowledgeable about taking precautions and the GF pizzas came out marked with small skewers that said gluten free. It was a great treat for sure.
Their pizza absolutely blew my mind. It’s even better than Renee’s or Buddy’s. Not even exaggerating it was one of the best pizzas I’ve ever had, even before my diagnosis. They stuck an allergy marker in it and the manager assured me that they took precautious. I didn’t get sick so I’ll definitely be back. I don’t think anything else on the menu is gluten free but it doesn’t even matter. Just go get the pizza!
Hands down my favorite GF pizza on this side of the state! Thick and crispy, Detroit style pizza. They’re really awesome about cc and can take care of other dietary needs. Also! They have a happy hour special of BOGO pizza and the GF crust is included!! I’ve never had any issues here as a celiac.
