I used to consider this place a safe option, but after multiple reactions following eating here (and after a final unfortunate day of watching the server carry plates of glutinous burritos atop/ in my “gf” burrito bowl) my friends called me out and told me to face the facts: this place isn’t safe for celiac.
As with multiple farm house locations, they assure you and yes you to death about safety. Unfortunately they don’t actually understand what they’re promising in terms of precautions. Unless things have drastically changed in the last year I’d Steer clear.
The answer on wether or not the tortilla chips are safe seems to change day to day?
Food is okay in flavor, fairly bland in all honesty.
This was my second time here during a work trip to Burlington. I sat at the bar. When I said I had celiac the bartender said everything is GF. I said I don’t think so. Then he checked and said all but burritos and quesadillas are GF. I got chips and queso and an appetizer as my meal. It was way more than one person could eat. Chips were fresh fried, darker than I like, but tasted good. Queso could have been a little spicier. All in all a good meal and experience.
Chips are gluten free from a dedicated fryer. Almost entire menu is gluten free. Staff was helpful and knowledgeable, and took care with my celiac as well as my friend's fish allergy. I got the two taco plate which was absolutely delicious. If I lived closer I would be here all the time!
Just ate here tonight with sensitive husband and Celiac daughter and everyone feels great afterwards. Staff was top notch & knew about Celiac disease & what’s okay/not okay. Most everything is GF. Place is located in a cute vintage shiny diner building, drinks are fantastic & the food tasted adequately fine for tacos this far north. We’re all from Texas, so admittedly we might be a little spoiled/snobby in this regard??
The tacos were great- fun, inventive combinations. I had the specials and they were delicious. They were fantastic with the gf options and super warm and welcoming. It was a low key, laid back place. Definitely try the lemonade, it is local and amazing!
Excellent place for celiacs! Of course, they cannot guarantee zero cross-contamination, but staff are knowledgeable about the differences between celiac, allergy, and intolerance. Almost everything on the menu is naturally gluten free, excluding burritos, quesadillas, and dessert items. It was absolutely delicious and such a groovy place!
Being recently put on a restricted diet, I was afraid to venture out to eat. This was only my 2nd meal outside of the house since my dietary changes.. The staff was exceptionally helpful and explained allot to me before ordering.. the food was amazing and has inspired me to be more adventurous in my own cooking!! The restaurant itself is quaint and comfortable!
This place is 98% GF and is a "farm to taco" concept as they call it. Only the flour tortillas have gluten in them. They have dedicated fryers and assured me that nothing with gluten goes into the fryers. I NIMA tested the salsa verde, queso, chips, and fish tacos. Everything came back safe to eat. The fish tacos with tequila lime crema are INCREDIBLE and unlike any that I have tried. They use masa and buttermilk to bread them. The queso is also delicious. I was not impressed with the salsa, but I'm from the south, and like it spicy.
Everything except the burrito shell is gluten free. The Papas Fritas were amazing!! Also got the breakfast nachos. They immediately told me they were gluten free and celiac safe when I said I was gluten free. Super cool old diner atmosphere. Portions were massive and everything tasted really good. Was even able to try my husband and kids meals , which never happens
Highly recommend a reservation because they fill up fast. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about celiac, and said they would make sure to take extra cautions with the pans to prevent cross contamination. All tacos are made with corn tortillas but the burritos do use flour. The chips have a dedicated fryer and are safe (and delicious!) Also the gluten free brownie with spicy chocolate sauce is a must! The best gf brownie I have had.
We had a fantastic time eating here last night. We got the fries with cheese sauce, they were thick cut but delicious. The two sauces on the table were tasty, one was a pickled jalapeno chili sauce, the other was a very day spicy sauce. Not sure how better to describe them, but both were delicious.
The service was fast and attentive, we each got tacos and they were tasty. The tacos only had one corn tortilla, and they got soggy and fell apart quickly, but were yummy.
The atmosphere is nice, it has a diner vibe with an equal number of counter seats and booths. We will eat there again next time we visit the city!
Fabulous option for our celiac family (one is vegetarian too). Even the chips are safe and they are so light and crispy!!! Can’t remember the last time we had fresh chips anywhere. Everything is gf except the burrito flour tortillas which are also used for quesadillas so we felt very safe and confident. Super easy with so many options plus local hard cider made it perfect.
Waitress seemed very rehearsed in giving the low-down on gluten options, which were basically everything but the burritos and quesadillas. Corn chips were GF, as were the margaritas. I had a fish taco breaded in corn tortilla crumbs (delicious) and a chorizo taco and a carnitas taco. Side of rice and refried beans. All extremely tasty.
I love this restaurant! We sat at the bar and the wait staff was very friendly. I asked for a gluten-free menu but they did not have one. Instead, the waitress informed me that the only products which contain gluten were the tortillas. They were very knowledgeable and made me feel at ease with ordering. We ordered the papas fritas to share but I wish had gotten my own. They are delicious! I also had the pollo tacos with black beans and rice. I had no reaction and will most definitely be returning soon!
This little diner Mexican place is so tasty and celiac friendly! I had carnitas and frijoles tacos with no bad reaction. They have corn tortillas. My husband had a pescado taco which is breaded with corn chips according to the server so that appeared to be celiac friendly as well. Great find in Burlington!
Excellent food and service. I had a burrito bowl with chicken, rice, beans, lettuce, guacamole, salsa and sour cream. Separate fryer for chips which was a bonus. I would definitely recommend this place!
