We spoke with Brett, the manager, and he took his time to answer our many questions about their menu and kitchen. Their staff is well trained and they have soooo many gluten free options marked on the menu as either GF = Gluten Free or GFR = Gluten Free by Request, meaning it can be made GF at your request.

I had the GF grilled bbq chicken corn tacos with cheese, fresh tomatoes and other fixings. I also had their butter beans which were better than any bean I’d ever had at a restaurant which were also locally grown. I also enjoyed their southern cheese grits and sweet potato purée. It was all delicious.

The only caution I have for anyone with digestive challenges would be to consider skipping the gumbo with the bacon, ham, and collards. This was fixed Southern Style with much more fat compared to Cajun Style gumbo with seafood, okra, and overall less fat. I was not glutenated, but the fat content was a bit much for someone without a gallbladder. I’ll skip the soup in the future.

Most of their food can be cooked to your specifications so that is great for our Celiac Community. However, they don’t have a dedicated fryer, so be cautious with the fried items.

Go and enjoy this unique restaurant, but don’t be bashful. Communicate to the manager and your server and you’ll have an enjoyable experience. I always say, “call before you go and ask your questions.” It’s your money!!
