Remembering our great experience at De Italiaan two years ago, we returned and were not disappointed! My husband has celiac disease, and this makes four dinners here that were absolutely delicious as well as safe for him. We had delicious pizza one night and returned with four other people for scrumptious pasta the next day. The staff could not possibly have been more helpful or pleasant. They helped with translation, switched our reservation from outside to indoors due to weather, and made splitting the bill for separate checks a simple task. If we return to Amsterdam, we will absolutely go back!

Friendly helpful staff. Had a discussion about our dietary needs -one cheese free and one coeliac. Staff were knowledgeable and reassuring. Food was delicious. Would definitely return.

When visiting the restaurant we were informed that they do NOT offer a Gluten Free menu and the GF listing was a mistake.
I had a great pizza! Everything was clearly labeled on the menu and the wait staff was knowledgeable about GF options.

It was safe and pretty good. Perhaps I didn’t make the best selection by ordering pizza—the crust is just never 100% satisfying to me. We had a burrata starter which was excellent. The pizza was good. I will say the ambiance was excellent, I would come again—but order something different.

Absolutely fantastic! At first I saw the pizza and I thought it was really small and ugly for the price I payed...but then I tasted it and it was like an explosion of flavours in my mouth, It reminded me of the traditional Italian flavours... mind-blowing!

So surprised by the abundance of positive reviews. This restaurant is not safe for coeliacs. Most of the menu is not gluten free and as I was sitting next to the kitchen I could see how unsafe it was. Very busy kitchen preparing a lot of gluten meals at high speed. I asked the waiter to notify the chef that I was coeliac but he simply said that the pizza would go through the system as gluten free. Do not recommend.

Popped by for a drink to see if we liked the look of it (we did!) and glad we pre-booked as by 6pm they were turning people away. Absolutely beautiful vegetarian antipasto platter (aubergine mushroom Broad bean onion basil tomatoes rocket various cheeses. Was followed by gluten free pasta con vongole. No separate gluten free menu but lady said ‘she’d explain’. She never did l, so I asked waiter if I could order gluten free, my choices as above, were fine and got a nod. The food was absolutely beautiful and I was not sick at all. Not even a twinge. I would have preferred it if they’d put a stick in or a napkin to show mine was gluten free (my husband’s looked identical except for the slight shade difference in the pasta). Glad I trusted the waiter, who announced “gluten free” and put my dish down with a flourish as I wouldn’t have wanted to miss eating and drinking here. Outdoor tables have a heated seat pad should you need it and they offer a blanket when the sun goes in! I might move in!

The food was amazing. I had a burrata salad as well as a gluten free chefs choice pizza. They were 10/10. I am still thinking about the burrata salad days later. Unfortunately about an hour after eating I got very sick which has me feeling that there was some kind of cross contamination of gluten somewhere in my meal. This was quite disheartening as I had done research on this app in advance and spoke to the server about gluten free options as well as cross contamination but as it’s a pizza kitchen I know it must be easy to get small traces of gluten in other spots. If you’re not celiac I would definitely recommend this place because the service was great and the food was delicious but I’m not sure I would go again due to the fact of getting sick.

Very good GF pizza and large portion. No reactions 2 days later when making this review. We were given 1hr to eat. Make reservations by phone. We arrived 15 mins prior to reservation and were seated as there was plenty seating. By the time our 1hr was up, there were no tables and people waiting. Very popular! My friends liked their non GF pizzas. We would go back.

Delicious gf food! The pasta was amazing, as was the pizza. They had plenty of outdoor seating. We did the 4 course tasting menu, whereby we were able to try much of the menu. The only thing that wasn’t gluten free was the bread that could be eaten with the pasta or anti pasta. However, they ask if it was something you wanted/could eat. Would highly recommend!

Separate oven for gf pizzas and knowledgeable staff. The gf pizza dough is wheat free (without gf wheat starch as sometimes used in Italy) and oat free (without gf oats) as well. Pizza topping was delicious, but the dough itself not crunchy. The gf tiramisu was the highlight. Expensive: my pizza was 19.50€ plus 2.50€ extra for gf. Tiramisu was 7.50€.

This Italian restaurant is a gf heaven! All their menu items are also available gf. Their gf pizzas are made in a seperate kitchen area with a seperate oven. The pasta is devine and their tiramisu is great. They're knowledgeable and helpful. When I was here my pizza was not that good. It seemed undercooked, but the staff was understanding and helpful and made a new one for me.

What a treat!! Proper authentic Italian place in a very cute street. The actual restaurant is gorgeous. They first bring you Italian olives and snacks and we always ask for more olives as the snacks are not gluten free, they always bring more happily. Nearly all dishes can be made gluten free. I’ve never tried a pasta dish but have been back many times for the best gf pizza in Amsterdam! Their daily specials are always creative and insanely tasty. This chef knows what they’re doing. It’s so nice to go and choose from authentic amazing flavour options and forget you’re a coeliac for a day.

Separate oven for the GF pizza, which are also bit smaller to distinguish from non GF oizzas.

2 celiac kids. I’m struggling with this review because no one got sick, which is great, and is the only reason they are getting 4 stars, but I thought the food and the execution were underwhelming.
First, I’d note that most (if not all) the reviews mention the pizza and not pasta. We thought we’d go and get pizzas there (separate oven, etc). But one of the kids really wanted pasta so we ordered 3 pizzas and a pasta dish. I did the full questioning about separate preparation etc, and the young man who was the server was very smug/smirky in a “don’t worry old man, we got this” sort of way. Generally, I don’t care if they are smug if the execute flawlessly - not the case here.
The only pasta style they had GF that night was penne, which I’m glad I asked. The GF pizzas are actually smaller than their nonGF pizzas so it’s easy to see that difference, and they come on a plate sized for the smaller crust.
They brought out 3 pizzas, which were clearly different than the pizzas/plates at the surrounding tables. Then another server came out with the bowl of pasta - spaghetti - clearly NOT GF PENNE. She set in front of the kid who almost started eating, but I snatched it up and pointed out that only the penne was GF. She was flustered and went to the smug guy to talk about it. She came back and said he made a mistake in how it was entered in the computer. They said “we’ll hurry up a replacement” - which basically made me super nervous. When the very small bowl of penne arrived bathing in pasta water with some mealy ground meat mixed in, it was pretty bad. Kiddo ate the noodles only, which I usually wouldn’t let slide, but in this case I tried it and was surprised she even ate that much.
Long story short, the pizza was decent and had meat topping options if that’s important to you. If not, I’d go to Mastino V for Pizza instead. And for pasta - I’d go to the Spaghetteria (better and more for about the same price) or Cafe Piazza (bit more expensive but great).
Absolutely delicious! All pizza and pasta can be done gf. Was told they have a seperate oven for gf pizza and that it might take a little longer, but that's no worries for completely gf food. They even have a couple gf desserts

The food was good and they seemed knowledgeable about cross contamination. The pizzas are cooked in a separate oven. If give them five stars for the food and the stars for the service. Maybe I came on a bad night, but the service was extremely slow and it took multiple tries to get anyone's attention at every step of the meal.
