Fun place, but it's full of gluten. No gf beer and almost all food made with beer. Delicious if you do not have celiac or a gluten intolerance/sensitivity.
Have eaten here for almost 7 years, and never had a bad experience!!! I recommend the fish tacos, they are amazing and 100% GF! All staff is very knowledgeable about the allergy, but if you ask for Nate, he will give you personal info, because he has a gluten allergy himself! Great place, and I highly recommend it!
I did not feel like the menu had a lot to offer, that did not involve a high risk of cross contamination. I had the salmon cooked on a plank in the pizza oven. It was very good. I did not have any ill effects.
No brunch options are marked gluten free, but they could make a couple of options work (and I had the amazing date appetizer just because)! Waiter wasn't 100% knowledgable, but it worked out without me getting sick.
Based on rave reviews elsewhere I tried Destihl about 2 months ago with a colleague at lunch. My waiter was not celiac friendly, nor very knowledgeable. The GF menu was disappointing. The food was mediocre and way overpriced. There was hardly anyone there at the time, yet we still had very slow service.
They have a GF menu available, which is great!! There is only one GF appetizer, the chorizo stuffed dates, and it is amazing!! I haven't ventured out and tried much food, but the lamb pizza on GF crust is great! GF beers... Bleh. But they're mixed drinks are great!
This restaurant was a great experience. The food was great and they have a completely sepetate GF menu that spells out what is safe and what to request to make it more GF. They also had a cherry GF beer on tap that was yummy. The waitress was knowledgable about what was and wasn't safe. They even had GF friendly deserts!
We visited this restaurant because of its reviews. We visited for a weekday lunch. They were helpful and answered every question. My wife ordered the Spicy Thai Shrimp (GF/DF) and I ordered the Jambalaya. Both dishes arrived to the table at the right temperature. Both were excellent and had outstanding flavor. This may sound trite but both dishes employed spices to their advantage to enhance flavor. This restaurant was an unexpected bright spot in our trip through Illinois.
Excellent gluten free menu. Chef even came to our table to explain how 3-4 plates of pasta pre-boiled first of the day with clean pots to avoid cross contamination and other methods during the day to avoid cross contamination of other meals. My celiac son had the 12 oz almost foot long graucho skirt steak with rice beans and corn-loved it. Wife and I shared the thai steak salad and thai curry-spicey hot-pasta(both also gluten free). We loved our meals too. Update- NO gluten free beer as of 08/04/2014. The only negative while we were there.
Great atmosphere and delicious food! The wait staff is knowledgable about allergies. I had the Cedar Plank Salmon with grilled tomatoes and asparagus. The flavors exploded in my mouth! We also had the Shrimp Ceviche with Avocado Mousse served with corn chips. Delicious!
I thoroughly enjoyed Destihl. Extensive menu and the wait staff was very knowledgable. I had the Potatoes & Salmon and it was amazing! Even had gluten-free beer, though I didn't try it. We live just over an hour away, but would gladly travel here for a special occasion dinner. My daughter (8 years old and not gluten-free) said hers was the best cheeseburger she's ever had - and the kids' meals come with a free root beer float!
GF menu has a lot of choices. I had a spicy shrimp pasta and it was delicious. I didn't have any issues after eating there. I do believe their menu said they do not have a dedicated GF grill so I stayed away from that kind of food just in case.
Large gf menu selection and very tasty food- way better than biaggis! Prices are very reasonable too. I'm not sure why it is listed as $$$. There is a great atmosphere too- perfect to take family, friends, or dates.
