When I called to ask if there is a GF menu, the gentleman on the phone said, "Corporate says we need to tell people that everything on the menu has gluten in it."
Very understanding and conscientious when requested to take some GF-care in preparing meat dishes. Most meats are GF and this chain knows the protocol to avoid cross-contamination ...to the best of their abilities.
This place said they couldn't help us get our gluten free food because the whole counter is covered in gluten and they didn't have time to help us. Would never go there again. "What do u want me to do about it" -guy we were ordering our food from.
If you're in Fort Stockton and you're hungry, this place will do you right. Their spice rub and sauces are wheat free. Ask them to skip the roll and change their gloves, and most things on the menu should be okay. While not first class TX BBQ, the food is fine, fast and filling and the restaurant and bathrooms are clean.
There is an allergen list online that is helpful. When I submitted my online order I did state that I am allergic to wheat/gluten. When I got home and opened up my food, there were two rolls sitting on top of my meat. Thank goodness I don't get deathly sick from a crumb but if you are extremely sensitive to gluten I would not recommend this place.
We love eating here on Sundays - kids eat free for every adult meal your purchase! A family member has Celiacs. We always make the person taking our order aware and they use special care when preparing our food. Lots of options here since the sauces and sides are all GF with the exception of fried okra, mac'n cheese and rolls.
We go there quite often and I get the baked beans and mashed potatoes. I have celiac but am not as sensitive so I've never had a problem, but they don't seem to be the safest with cross contamination. I always ask them to change their gloves and clean the cutting board really well. Great pork and BBQ sauce and the complimentary ice cream is the best!
There is no specific GF menu, but they can find out ingredients for their foods and you can look at the allergen list online. For gluten free, I highly suggest green beans, pork, and chicken breast. This is a great, FAST service, delicious and friendly location. Unfortunately for those of us who need GF, this location doesn't have baked potatoes or salads. Boo (that's why I removed an extra star)! But it is so hard to find anywhere safe to eat out in Fort Stockton for celiacs, I wanted to throw this one out because I ate there and lived while traveling through.
The staff are gluten aware, and when asked will change their gloves, cutting board, and knives. Obviously not a dedicated GF facility, so be conscious of what you order. Most of the sides are GF, the BBQ sauce is NOT gf, it states this on their website. Bring your own sauce.
staff is very eager to help. most of the meats are gluten free just advise them of your needs and they will change gloves, cutting boards, knives and skip the bread. most of the sides are gluten free. Free ice cream for all that's gluten free as well!
Great staff and food. The management was very earnest in wanting to know more about gluten free. The staff immediately changed their gloves and cutting board if you tell them you are gluten free. they already have many meet items on the menu that are gluten free... And they are working hard on becoming more knowledgeable about the subject.
Don't waste your time! We walked in and asked for a gluten free listing or if they knew what was gluten free and they said the only thing we could have was the icecream! Funny because the other Dickeys have gluten free options. They clearly didn't want to take the time to help us!
I had been a 5 star review there but I've knocked it down to there - the last few times we have been there we have had to have them remake the food due to them putting rolls on the plate or in the to-go container. They often forget to read the rest of the ticket which specifies a gluten free order when you order online. When they're on it though, the food is great, the servers are wonderful about changing gloves and contamination. Its just a 50/50 chance - are you going to hit them on a good day or a bad day?
Has a nice sized gluten free menu as well as other allergy menus. The staff member I worked with who was also the owner was very knowledgeable about gluten free needs. All meats and sauces were gluten free and was prepared on a new tray to prevent cross contamination. The sides also had a great selection of gluten free options. I highly recommend the baked potato casserole and the coleslaw.
Even though they have gluten free options, they aren't well-versed in them. They assured my husband that the sides he had picked were gluten free, but he arrived home with baked beans which were not gluten free according to the allergen information on the website. When he caked the store, the told him that they hadn't updateded the allergen sheet in their store since they opened a couple of years ago. They also made no effort to make it right, even though they knew before we purchased that I have Celiac disease.
Great place to get full and eat gluten free!
So a nice surprise. They don't have a gluten free menu, but are very helpful in answering questions that all of us celiac's suffers have. Let just say they don't know all the rules, but seem willing to try. They don't have a dedicated fryer, and I let them know that the food cooked in it would not be safe. They also don't have gluten free buns, but with BBQ you don't necessarily need one. The staff there was very friendly and willing to accommodate. But please make sure they got your request right, because even though I asked for no bun (and had a long conversation about it) they are trained to do their process a certain way, and was putting my food on a roll. I had to remind them that I couldn't have the roll and they would have to make it again. So far I haven't gotten sick yet (just ate there a couple of hours ago), so I would recommend giving it a try. Maybe the more gluten free requests they get the more they will offer and better informed they will get.
Yum! Yum! Yum! All the meat and many of the sides are gf. We got a pound of beef brisket and a half pound of honey ham with two medium sides and fed four of us for around $35. Kids eat free on Sundays. Free ice cream everyday (which wasn't all that great but it was gluten free). We will definitely be back!
Just beyond C6. I had pulled pork with BBQ sauce and green beans. HUGE servings! The staff was very helpful and encouraged me to read ingredients. They were unsure about some of the sides, but I appreciated their honesty. Would go back again!
When we ordered our meal all of the staff behind the counter change their gloves got out clean cutting boards clean knives and took a new meat out of the warming oven so there would not be any cross-contamination. I've never seen a restaurant take such care. Plus the food was awesome we've eaten there twice in the last week
I have eaten at one other Dickeys and they were very knowledgeable. This particular one...not so much. I had to ask for the manager, then I was successful at ordering safely. As I always say....be cautious and order carefully....to avoid cross contamination. The people fixing the food don't deal with the side affects....we celiacs do!
The staff at this location were amazing. Before I could even ask they were doing a glove change, getting a new cutting board and knife and it held that everything was delish!!! Online they have a great list of allergen info for reference but the staff was really knowledgeable.
The food was pretty good (not super warm) but tasty if you want some meat. What was not quite as good was the teenage boys at the counter rolling their eyes and sighing when I said I had a gluten allergy. I knew from this app the sauces and meats were fine, so I just needed to double check on two side dishes. I was pretty low maintenance to be shown their frustrations. I realize they just didn't know what to do, but it wasn't lots fun.
