I asked about gluten free options because I had seen online that they have many. The lady behind the counter told me that if I wanted low fat options I was in the wrong place. We left.
great food, big portions. kid friendly.
The manager was helpful, and immediately brought out their ingredients binder. Only the buns, mac and cheese and possibly another side contained gluten, so I wasn’t limited in picking my meat, sides, and sauce. The food was very good! I would return.
This place is wonderful. We originally checked their Allergen chart and found items that didn't contain gluten so, we took the chance. When arrived and told them that the husband has celiac disease they, knew to change gloves and shut the line line down to clean everything and then his items were pulled from the cooler and other areas. We were told that they had some oj ne who had sensitivities so, they understood the importance. Will definitely be going back.
Once I told them gluten free they changed gloves and brought out a new cutting board. The manager has celiac and told me which sides were safe - mac and cheese and fries were only two I couldn’t have (although he said he has fries and doesn’t get sick even though they’re cooked in a shared fryer with gluten). I’ll definitely be back.
Dickey’s Manager, Jeremy, was extremely helpful and knowledgeable of all food allergies. He gave us an allergen menu which included gluten free options. All meats and some sides are gluten free. Explained that they thoroughly clean a dedicated area of the kitchen to prepare the gluten free items offered. Great food also!!
Ate here tonight with my family. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to eat anything. As soon as I mentioned Celiac the employee immediately removed gloves, washed hands, put on new gloves, got a clean knife and cutting board. They made sure to keep the meats totally separate from the gluten containing sides.
The owner’s wife has an extreme gluten sensitivity/disorder so they understand the importance of no cross contamination. Everything except for the Mac and cheese, bread, and spinach is gluten free. The owner is exceptional and the staff always changes gloves for gluten issues. My mom and I both have Celiac and have yet to have a problem here.
All the meats and sauces are gluten free! Including many of their sides. The staff here was very nice and helpful! One of the workers Mom has Celiac so he was very knowledgeable about it and helped us out, even by checking labels and ingredients.
The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. As other reviews noted, the manager explained he has celiac disease and took the time to walk me through all of the celiac friendly options they could offer. He changed his gloves, grabbed a clean board and prepared my meal himself while offering suggestions. I highly recommend this location.
Like other locations, this place is not very aware of what gluten is. My understanding from reading a blog and asking the employees was that the meats and some of the sides were gluten free, but I wasn't reassured by the employees. I also can't really judge from my reactions if it was gluten free or not, but I can say that the ribs and sauce taste great.
They had no idea what we were talking about. They also kept messing up and when asked multiple times for no bread, they put bread on my tray. Their remedy was to just take it off.
The counter person told me that she was not allowed to tell me what was gluten free and directed me to a catering book in the front of the store. Made a sandwich for another person but would not change gloves when getting my sides afterwards. Not worth the risk of cross contamination to eat here.
They nailed it! Sam, on the meat cutting board, read ingredients, knew to change his gloves, get a clean knife, and got a clean cutting board. We thoroughly enjoyed the brisket (sliced), and a rack of ribs. Since he was not certain their sauce was safe we agreed to get our own sauce (this was take-out). Like a taste of home, it was wonderful! We’ll absolutely be back!
Good smoked meats and delicious sides. Almost all is GF other than the obvious items (bread, mac & cheese). Dan, the owner, and his staff are well aware of the need to avoid cross contamination and go through a strict protocol when you mention alergens. When we asked about gluten free, he asked: "Is it Celiac or an allergy?" THe place is not real fancy, but the food is good!
ALWAYS accommodating to our family’s allergies! They have an allergy list with ingredients used in all their products. Just tell them your allergies (gluten, dairy, etc) when you order and they’re happy to help! They wash hands, get a new slab of meat, new knife , cutting board, etc when you order. Annnnnd it’s seriously so delicious!
The staff knew just what to do when I said I had celiac. They changed their gloves, pulled out a dedicated gluten-free cutting board and knife and knew what menu options were gluten-free.
This place said they couldn't help us get our gluten free food because the whole counter is covered in gluten and they didn't have time to help us. Would never go there again. "What do u want me to do about it" -guy we were ordering our food from.
If you're in Fort Stockton and you're hungry, this place will do you right. Their spice rub and sauces are wheat free. Ask them to skip the roll and change their gloves, and most things on the menu should be okay. While not first class TX BBQ, the food is fine, fast and filling and the restaurant and bathrooms are clean.
There is an allergen list online that is helpful. When I submitted my online order I did state that I am allergic to wheat/gluten. When I got home and opened up my food, there were two rolls sitting on top of my meat. Thank goodness I don't get deathly sick from a crumb but if you are extremely sensitive to gluten I would not recommend this place.
We love eating here on Sundays - kids eat free for every adult meal your purchase! A family member has Celiacs. We always make the person taking our order aware and they use special care when preparing our food. Lots of options here since the sauces and sides are all GF with the exception of fried okra, mac'n cheese and rolls.
We go there quite often and I get the baked beans and mashed potatoes. I have celiac but am not as sensitive so I've never had a problem, but they don't seem to be the safest with cross contamination. I always ask them to change their gloves and clean the cutting board really well. Great pork and BBQ sauce and the complimentary ice cream is the best!
