District Taco is great! Not only is almost everything on the menu gluten free (the one exception is the flour tortillas), but the staff are trained in gluten friendly protocols. As long as you mention gluten free when you order, they will put it on the ticket. I watched as gloves were changed before making my tacos, and fresh aluminum foil was put on the grill for my corn tortillas! Also the flavors are amazing!
This place is so much better than chipotle and has a fresh salsa bar! The guacamole is super good and the chips are corn. They offer corn tortillas and I've never felt sick eating here but I also don't get sick if there's cross contamination. This is a must go place if visiting the area. My favorite is getting carnitas with chips and guac.
I got three take-out tacos in early October 2019. The options offered were thoughtful; the food was well-made and generous for the price. This place is a good bargain. Even better, the clerk at the register was happy to answer my questions. There were many, many GF options, and the clerk volunteered that, once he put "gluten free" on my ticket, the kitchen staff would change gloves and take allergen precautions. The tacos (al pastor, pollo asado & guacamole) were delicious, and I was able to have a worry-free meal. This is a good place.
Highly recommend! Staff friendly and patient while I decided. It was super easy to order a to-go order and quick! Tried 4 different combinations of corn tortilla tacos and they did not disappoint!! Great way to end our day in DC.
Great food! Even with technical difficulties leading to no corn tortillas or eggs, everything else is still fantastic! I had the taco bowl with chicken, bacon, rice, beans and sour cream. Yum!! In fact, only thing that has gluten are the flour tortillas.
Everything except flour tortilla (thus burritos) are Gf. Clearly marked allergen menu with all ingredients online. Chips are marked as gf and I confirmed in restaurant that they’re not fried in anything shared. Mentioned GF before I started ordering and they flagged someone to handle my order individually. Very easy and comfortable ordering experience! Also all salsas at their free salsa bar are GF.
Had a great meal and didn’t get sick. I was a little skeptical when the girl I ordered from didn’t know what meat was gluten free. She asked the other cashier who suggested she go and ask a cook. She came back and told me all the meat was GF. I had the burrito bowl with Barbacoa shredded beef and it was great!
Most taco places should be gluten friendly so when we asked about it here the cashier was good to ask. What made the service and place exceptional was that the manager stopped my order (pollo asado bowl) because she said she wasn’t sure about the marinade but she made a call and came back and said all was good for being gluten free. The bowl was ok. The chips and guacamole were excellent! To be honest, I would go back in a heartbeat because the manager, Claudia, took the extra step to make sure that all was going to be ok. She even stopped by our table to ask how it was. I explained to her that I had just walked down the row of restaurants where they are located asking for gluten free options and most of the front staff were clueless. Thank you!
They know what you mean when you ask for gluten free, and they place aluminum foil over the grill when warming your corn tortillas. They have always gone out of their way to accommodate me. And the tacos are great!
Was in DC 3 days sightseeing. I have celiac and so does my son. We ate here four different times and loved it. My son liked the tacos but couldn't stop getting the gf queso. For gf orders they have a dedicated person change gloves, wrap fresh corn tortillas in aluminum and prepare the order. Tortilla chips are gf.
It was all just ok. The best part was that they write Gluten Free on the ticket so I know that the kitchen knows not to cross contaminate. I wish everywhere would do this! Chips were hard and tasted stale. No salt. Tomatillo salsa was strangely creamy. Guac was a strange texture and a bit bland. Corn tortillas were thick and chewy- in a bad way. Barbacoa is better at Chipotle. Carnitas were bland. My friend got the chicken as said it was the best meat in his three tacos.
A good fast food option, qualitatively better than chipotle with roughly equivalent quantity. They have corn tortillas and bowls as GF options, and are generally sensitive to the gluten free diet; largely by default because of the type of food they serve. The guacamole is good and the salsa bar is worth checking out as well. I recommend take out because it can get pretty loud and hectic in the store at times. Good atmosphere on par with similarly priced burrito/taco shops like Chipotle and Moe's. tl;dr - Good food, fair prices, good quality, not dedicated gluten free, would visit again.
Food is still good but the lady making our food stuck her hand right in the cheese and lettuce. Maybe she only did it with the gluten free. I can't be sure. My kids aren't as sensitive as me but yesterday I had a teenie stomach ache and we ate there also. So ifs def worth eating just as always watch your food.
Excellent! If you like tacos you will love this place. My kids loved it too! You just let them know you need gluten free and they give you a corn tortillas instead. Delish! The pico de gallo is yum! We got the barbacoa ( shredded beef). Definitely recommend!
I had high expectations for this place after reading some reviews. I go to all the popular Mexican restaurants so I find it easy to give my opinion here. Overall the food was decent, no brilliant flavors or spices mostly salt and pepper. The rice is completely unseasoned white rice, no cilantro or lime. The steak was very plain too, however it was tender. I would give their food 2 stars because it was so bland, but adding 1 star because it did taste fresh and they did accommodate gluten intolerant customers. Their chips and queso are gluten free, and to make all the dishes better I put queso on them. Be careful because some of their salsas have wheat, you should ask which ones. I would rate them below all the major Mexican chains even California Tortilla and Moe's...
Unfortunately both times I've been here, I've gotten sick. Make sure if you get tacos that you specify that you want gluten free, not just corn tortillas. They handle them differently. I'm not sure if I picked up cross contamination from the chips or what. However, well priced, and while the food isn't spectacular, it's good with a bit of salt, pepper and lime.
Due to being GFCF I eat a lot of Mexican food but even though it was quick and inexpensive, I wouldn't call it fast food. It was freshly prepared, the salsas tasted home made and it was delicious!! What a wonderful treat. I wish we had these in New Jersey!!
