I don’t care why you’re in Chicago, there are ZERO REASONS to not eat these donuts. I literally hunted these down today and had them delivered to the office (I live in DC and am here on a work trip) and it was the best decision I’ve made this week. These are FRIED. None of that cake in a circle called a donut crap. These are real donuts. They’re soft, not dry, amaaazzzinnggg. And I never get sick eating them. Run. Do not walk. And get some. (Because let’s be honest, you might need to do a little running after eating all these donuts.)
The gluten free donuts were kept in a separate case, the staff used a separate tissue for the gluten free vs non-gluten free donuts, and they also packaged them in separate bags. The birthday cake gluten free was amazing and very filling. I could not believe it was gluten free because it tasted so good! Definitely a must when you are in Chicago!
I will make a special trip to this location all the time! The donuts are crispy on the outside and soft inside. Amazing! They typically have 3 flavors (cinnamon sugar, birthday and chocolate). If you are making a special trip, be sure to call ahead and ask to have some set aside. They often run out of the gluten free.
This place has amazing gluten free donuts. I recommend ordering online for pick-up to guarantee you get a donut as they only make a specific amount each morning. They have 3 flavors and the flavor offerings differ amongst the different Do-Rite donuts. Do NOT order for delivery. My first experience with them was a 1 star experience after they left half of my order at the shop, stated they would be back with it, and then never returned (despite giving the delivery guy a large tip). I emailed the owner and they did refund my money.
Order ahead of time online! They sell out quick! GF donuts are not dairy free. I've had the sprinkle, chocolate glazed, and cinnamon sugar before. All very good. Their pistachio one is to die for! 4 stars for lack do dairy free option. What a great, quick treat downtown!
I come to Chicago once a year and this Do-Rite donut shop is a mandatory stop for me. Their GF donuts are delicious and they keep them in a separate case. I’ve never gotten sick and really appreciate how they accommodate Celiacs. Coffee is excellent too!
Got all 3 flavors they had. If you call ahead, they can make flavor options as the frosting is what changes. Too bad I didn't know or I could have had a maple bacon donut. The texture is very much like an old fashioned. It is not a light, fluffy, squishable donut. More like the texture of the mini gems powdered donuts I used to get in vending machines. All selections were in a seperate case.
Only two options when I got there, Pistaschio Lemon Glazed and Donut with chocolate frosting (not dairy free, did not eat frosting). The donut online said it's a cake donut, but tastes like bread with a little bit of sugar on it... Gave another chance with a cinnamon donut, still tastes like dry bread, not a donut
I've been gluten free for close to 8 years as it's rare to find any with any real taste or substance. These donuts have both and thus are the only donuts I actually eat. So it's a treat to come into downtown Chicago. I don't have celiac but I do have pretty severe reactions to gluten so I'm very familiar with cross contamination and work hard to avoid it. Unfortunately while I have never personally had a reaction after eating their donuts, I did watch cross contamination of some cinnamon sugar donuts happen right in front of me. The girl was placing some donuts in the separate glass housing they store them in. However one of the guys needed help with the actual donut trays. So she helped as I would expect. A couple of donuts hit her hand in the process. Instead of changing out her glove she went right back to putting the remainder of the gluten free donuts out using the same hand. That wasn't impressive. While they seem to do everything right, it was obvious this girl was not properly trained to handle them.
