My favorite place in Marquette to get fresh, tasty, gluten free food with yummy local ingredients. I am very picky. This is the only place I go to get a hamburger. The meat is grass fed from a local farm, Guindon. I order the Donkers spinach and feta burger on a bed of lettuce (instead of bread). Their salads are amazing, The staff understands gluten free so well! No explanations necessary here:) And don't forget a bit of their dark chocolate on the way out:)
My meal was great. The first helper said anything could be made gf but common sense told me it was too good to be true and it was- but it’s the usual pancakes, French toast, etc that can’t be gf. When I asked further it was apparent that the other staff was VERY knowledgeable of Celiac and of the ingredients in their foods. They do have a decent gf bread and toast it separately. I had an omelet and hash browns.
They have Gluten Free sandwich bread and their tomato basil soup is GF. I had the Athena sandwich, it was pretty good, the bread was a little crumbly so had to eat it pretty quick. Seems like they can make most sandwiches GF. You order upstairs and they give you a rock with you # on it. Neat little place, would definitely come back!
If you're feeling like soup and a sandwich definitely go to Donckers. They also have fantastic breakfast. They have Udi's Gluten Free bread (larger restaurant only sandwich bread!), that is as good as ever. Staff is familiar with gluten and dairy allergies, they always change gloves, and can tell you which sauces are okay. If you like spicy food, the Blazin Saddles sandwich is amazing!
