The drinks were good, but this place is very crowded. Between the number of people in a tight space, music too loud and competing with those around you, you cannot have a conversation. It's definitely sensory overload. I could see others liking the place but it just wasn't for me.

However, again the drinks are fantastic. I had a non-alcoholic drink called happy feet, my partner had a drink called sleepy hollow, both were amazing.

Review

When I first visited Dutch Fred’s, it was listed among the gf restaurants in Midtown. I checked again before writing this review and it’s no longer listed as gf. So just in case you come across it as being gf still then please be cautious.

I’ve been to this restaurant three times and had differing experiences each time. The first was arguably the best. Our server was extremely knowledgeable on gf and celiac limitations and, because it’s not marked, went through the entire menu and listed it all gf foods or dishes that could be made gf. They even explained there were two fryers in back to eliminate cross contamination. The bun-less burger and Bang Bang Shrimp were awesome!

The second time I visited, I expected the same experience but was sorely disappointed. When I asked the server what was gf on the menu, they said nothing at their restaurant was gf and didn’t seem interested in finding out. I wound up sticking to the bun-less burger and was fine. The third and final time I visited, I skipped asking about what was gf and had both the bun-less burger and shrimp. Unfortunately, I felt weird after eating the shrimp and later had a minor reaction.

The upscale bar atmosphere makes this a great place to visit after work or on an evening out in Manhattan. Their decorations during the holidays are cute and food is always a tasty treat. Unfortunately, if you’re celiac I can’t recommend because of the uncertainty of service. If you don’t get sick from gluten or aren’t extremely sensitive, I’d recommend giving it a try.
