This restaurant has been a family tradition for decades and 3 generations. We hadn’t been back for quite a few years and to my surprise, they have an entire gf menu and even a chocolate mousse dessert! Going to this little gem and getting to feel the atmosphere and hear the squeeze box just got much more relaxed and enjoyable! Absolutely amazing authentic German food btw. 🇩🇪
So sad, I used to eat here all the time with my family as we're German and love the ambience and the food but the last 3 times, YES 3 times, I've eaten here I've gotten sick ☹ I always make it a point to tell them of my allergy and order the salmon or a salad and regardless, I leave with a bloated, angry, distended stomach. Another frustration is the wait staff, some are incredible but many are young and find the remark of an allergy to be a nuisance and they treat it as such. I so did not choose to be celiac and I miss the yummy German food I was raised with. If your not celiac you might be okay 🤷🏼♀ but if you are, don't risk it.
I enjoyed a Saturday brunch on the Edelwiess patio yesterday. I ate every morsel of the chicken salad, which was yummy—full of fresh fruits including fresh mango, blackeberries, also salad greens and of course—the chicken salad on an avacado half.
They have a separate gf menu with a nice amount of gf choices.
I always remind servers I would like an allergy alert for gluten placed on my order—even though I order from the gluten free menu.
I will be back!
Very Celiac friendly!!! The waitress asked if I was gluten-sensitive or had Celiac Disease, then she explained to the waiter-in training why there was a difference. She helped me select gluten-free dishes and also offered to adjust other dishes to make them safe as well. My meal was fantastic! Authentic German, tasty, and safe. I had no reaction whatsoever. My only regret is that I live 8 states away so can't eat here regularly. This will be a definite stop the next time I'm in town!
