Food was excellent. Prices are good. I don't worry about cross-contamination so that didn't affect my choices. I had a taco asada, guacamole and chips. All of it tasted wonderful. the waiter did go talk to the kitchen and confirm the items were gf. He was very helpful but I am not 100% sure I was not exposed to gluten tonight. So you if you have celiacs I would be cautious.
No
I'm slightly surprised by some of the other reviews here. It's true that the GF selection isn't huge, but for me, there are only a handful of restaurants in DC where I get zero cross contamination. El Chucho is one of them. Elote, tacos al pastor, and an el codo and I'm happy.
Yes
Selection limited because no dedicated fryer and because some tacos, despite being made w/ corn tortillas, aren’t gluten free. Waiter tried to tell me that, “no, you *can* eat the pollo tacos [which are made w/ beer] because the gluten cooks off.” 😬
Delicious food. Corn tacos. Knowledgeable staff. No dedicated fryer so no tortilla chips.
No dedicated fryer so can’t have chips. We decided not to go. Since it’s Mexican, other stuff is probably fine- used to love it pre celiac!
Authentic Mexican cuisine is naturally celiac friendly and this place was no different than expected. They have a fairly limited menu - mostly tacos and tortes with some apps - but the corn chips are safe and the tacos delicious. The chicken is marinated in beer - something our waitress readily knew and informed me on. If possible go during happy hour! Such good prices!
