We have been going here for years and years a couple of times a month. Recently, I found out the hard way that the queso recipe had changed but no public notice has been given. The staff also had no idea. It has always been GF and was even listed on the GF menu, which is also no longer available. I was bedridden the following day with very severe symptoms. Terrible :(
This is no longer the same El Fenix. The company changed ownership a few years ago. THe menu has changed and they offer NO gluten free options!
Manager said they no longer have a gluten free menu, no longer willing to say anything is GF.
I’m not sure if I can give 0 stars but I would if I could. The waiter had no idea what gluten was or who to ask. I pulled over the manager who was able to print off a gluten free menu but it still seemed suspect as there were some things on there I would be surprised would be gluten free. I ended up just canceling my order and having a margarita.
Overall a good experience. Yes they have a gf menu with a few enchiladas, puffed tacos and crispy beef tacos on it. Also some of the sauces and the chips and salsa are gf. Like the previous reviewer I got the brisket enchiladas and charro beans. Luckily I read his review because there was also RICE on my plate which is NOT gluten free. So they took my plate and made me a new meal. The manager brought my new food out and assured me that they didn't just give me the first enchiladas but made me new ones. She was very kind and knowledgeable about celiac and I recommend this restaurant for anyone who is gluten free.
Gluten free chips and basic meat and brisket are gluten free. I had brisket enchiladas and they were great. Charro beans and guacamole as a side since the rice was not listed to be gluten free. Manager was great and helpful. Be smart and you can get a good Mexican food fix.
NO gluten free menu. Very unfriendly and unwilling to help or even try. Sat and watched my family eat. 100% do not recommend.
Gluten free menu available.
