I’m giving this place five stars because there are a ton of GF options and I didn’t get sick. But, it really wasn’t so delicious. We won’t be going back. But, if you want super fried safe food, set your expectations low and go here.

Went here for lunch specifically because they can make things gluten free. They have a dedicated area for GF items including a dedicated fryer. I love French fries but they aren’t often GF so when I get them I’m pretty excited about it! We requested the GF crab cakes but they were out of them. I ordered the fish and chips. They were really good. The fish wasn’t battered like normal fish and chips but Dredged in GF flours. It was really, really good. It was fresh and tasty. The fries were very good too. They had a GF menu and outdoor dining. I have eaten there before a few years ago but forgot about it until we got there and I remembered the place. I didn’t have a reaction to the food.

We were craving some seafood and had a fantastic meal here. They have a separate gluten free menu with tons of options—literally a full menu. They also have a dedicated fryer and the wait staff was very knowledgeable and even the servers wore single use gloves, which I was happy to see. My daughter is Celiac and was able to have fried calamari and one of the best fish and chips I’ve ever tasted—all with no issues. We also had the crab stuffed quesadilla, crab salad and even an amazing raspberry cake for dessert—all gluten free. We’re already planning our next meal here.

Gluten-Free at Flaherty's Seafood Grill and Oyster Bar
Seared Ahi tuna with leeks, and seaweed salad over coconut rice...delicious!
Gluten free calamari with pineapple slaw, it was amazing!! I've missed calamari since discovering I'm gluten-intolerant.
The oysters were delicious!
Seafood Mediterranean... So light & fresh!
This is JUST the gf lunch menu- the waiter assured me that he could make anything on the regular menu gf as well!

Gluten found according to the Nema sensor, tested twice. This was after we talked to a manager who insisted that our plane pan seared salmon, with steamed vegetables would be totally safe. Nima sensor detected gluten, and we tested it twice to confirm. Bringing our takeout food back to the restaurant, the manager insisted that this wasn’t possible because they take tons of precautions, and tried to argue with me. We ended up getting the clam chowder instead. That Newman tested fine. But the manager should take the Numa sensor information more seriously. Avoid this if you were celiac.

Be aware...We ordered an appetizer, and asked for it gluten free (without bread on top). But, when it came out there was bread on top, and they mentioned that it was gluten free bread, but it was not! Even though that did happen, they were very sorry and took ownership. We suggest that you make sure that your food is gluten free when it arrives. But, there was no cross contamination with any of our other food. Knowledgeable, but please be aware here! I would not avoid based on our experience, but just be aware...

Some of the food was a bit dry and overcooked.

Gluten free fried calamari is as delicious as anywhere compared to the gluten version. The GF fish and chips and clam chowder are good as well. I’d say the best dish is the calamari however. I’d give it a 10/10 and the others a 8/10 in taste.

Lots of outside seating during covid. We were seated immediately.

Yes, they have lots of GF options. We came here because of the good reviews. And I haven't had crab cakes in years. They were mediocre at best. I ordered lobster tail and I got two tails from lobsters closer to jumbo shrimp size. They were not cleaned it was so gross. There were dry potatoes and corn of corn that looked dry like it has been sitting under the heat lamp. I would have sent it back if the people at the next table weren't already complaining about their meals. And I never send things back. The kids pizza (not GF) was soggy and had toppings we couldn't identify. Husband liked his GF fish tacos.

The kitchen staff is clueless when it comes to actually preparing gluten-free food using the resources they claim to have, such as a gluten-free deep frier. Instead, everything is cross-contaminated; they’re cooking gluten items in the “gluten-free” frier and vice versa. Everything I ordered here failed NIMA testing. Stay away!

Super knowledgeable staff. I put in our reservation that I have celiac, and the host showed up with a gluten free menu and the server was a few moments behind, ready to explain how the kitchen is structured. There’s a separate gluten free area, and they can make almost everything on the menu celiac-friendly. She brought us the best gf focaccia I’ve ever tasted, I had a bite of someone’s clam chowder (server assured me it was safe), and we started with gf calamari. For entrees, my husband and I shared the fish and chips and lobster melt, both gf obviously. They weren’t out-of-this-world amazing in flavor, but it was so nice to go out with my family and not worry about what I could or couldn’t order. 5 stars for service and menu! I’ll definitely be back.

Our waitress was responsive and knowledgeable about celiac. She assured me the gluten free focaccia bread was kept separately from regular bread, that there was a separate prep area for GF food, and a dedicated fryer.

She scored huge points with the cocktail I ordered. I asked her if any of the ingredients had artificial flavorings (I explained that could potentially cause problems for people with celiac). She didn’t know the answer but said she would check. When she returned she had a cocktail with her—she said that they couldn’t figure out for certain if one of the ingredients was gluten free so the bartender substituted something he or she knew was GF. Cocktail was delicious and I felt even more comfortable about the meal ahead because of how the waitress handled it.

For dinner I had the GF fish and chips and they were great! I’d eat here regularly if I lived in the area.

Decent GF options, but when my mother and I ate here, she got so violently sick with food poisoning that we almost got in an accident racing home to Mountain View. I (celiac) was fine, but she has never been so sick before in her life after having the fish tacos. Don't risk it!

Service was really good and our waitress was really kind. She forgot my cup of chowder before our lunch came and immediately brought and told us she would not charge for it. The gluten free option for the fish and chips had corneal for the breading which we thought would be great for the kids; however it lacked flavor and was not seasoned at all. Half of it was left. The chips were also soft and a little mushy. It definitely felt more like diner food than a quality restaurant. The fish tacos for my gluten allergy wife were just ok. We feel bad about the review as the service was great and they were accommodating, the execution just fell flat.

Dedicated fryer - we had the seafood sampler fried. It’s a treat to have fried food. They brought out a bread that seemed to have cornmeal in it and rosemary. The fries were a bit mushy but we liked getting a little bit of everything with the sampler. Our favorite was the calamari. If I were to go again I’d get the calamari and one of the clam chowders. Atmosphere was great for lunch but it’s not a fancy place decor wise for a nice dinner.

Extensive separate gf menu including crab cakes, my fave. Have eaten there many times and the food is more than decent. My only minor criticism of the most recent visit was that the service was a little slow and my food was not piping hot. I love that they do so much gf. Their fish and chips are a bit heavy (not the normal light batter) but still tasty

Staff was extremely friendly and knowledgable about gluten issues, extensive gf menu. Had the fish n chips after wanting to try them for years- they were just ok. The crust was made of rice and corn flour- more like cornmeal- and not the fluffy "beer" batter crust I was expecting. Fries were soggy. Overall, probably the best choice in downtown Carmel for gf.

So, it's been 12 years since I've been diagnosed with celiac and 12+ years since I've had the pleasure is eating fish and chips, that is, until today! Flaherty's has a separate GF menu and it was difficult for me to select what meal to order... The staff seemed knowledgable and I felt safe putting my health in the chef's hands. My dinner was phenomenal and so was my husband's non GF meal. If we ever make it back to Carmel again this restaurant will be on our must see list! BTW, there is a restaurant section separate from the bar seating if you'd prefer a quieter atmosphere. It is so nice these small establishments can cater to the GF patrons!
