It was celiac safe with the way they prepare the gluten free sandwiches, but I won’t go out of my way to go again. The sandwiches are greasy with minimal filling and they didn’t taste very good. I’m very happy to see a sandwich shop like this practicing safe protocols, but there is a lot of room for improvement.
My sandwich was good, but the building was moldy and disgusting. We couldn’t breathe in there. You can see mold all over the ceiling and in the refrigerator with the bottled drinks.
I saw the good reviews but I didn’t really feel like the sandwiches were anything stand out. They don’t use bread but rather a gluten free pita. It feels more like eating a quesadilla than a sandwich. To be fair, I got the classic with soup. It was decently yummy and certainly was a helpful option but it just wasn’t outstanding in its taste. They can make any sandwich gluten free which is nice and almost everything on the menu is gf.
I used to work here and the staff is really great about accommodating for gluten free. They typically use a sourdough anyway, which personally does not bother my gluten intolerance. I will say if you are avoiding dairy, these are really cheesy and the bread is always well buttered (which I like).
I asked about their gluten free offerings and they were incredibly helpful. Most things can be made gluten free. I got the grilled cheese with bacon and soup. They asked if I was celiac so they could take extra precautions if so.
Thank you for taking time to write a review. We have been taking care of gluten free customers for almost 8 years now. I like to make sure gluten free (especially celiac) get something delicious to eat without fear of any cross contamination. I hope we see you again! Gayle
Soooooo good!!! Had the grilled cheese with ham and tomato, cup of soup and chips. Musician playing perfect music. Excellent staff. Felt safe eating here.
I am so glad you loved it! I appreciate the review and hope you will return and spread the word in the gluten free community about. Everything is locally sourced (including the pita - originally starting in Chicago before relocating to Racine, WI) so it is all fresh! Gayle
The sandwiches are amazing, but the owners have created a separate section of the kitchen dedicated to being gluten free. I get sick from cross-contamination very easily, but they reassured me of their kitchen, and I had a great experience.
I am so glad you enjoyed your grilled cheese. I always feel confident in my staff to make sure gluten free customers feel safe eating here. I hope we see you again! Gayle
The staff is very knowledgable, and there is no cross contamination, the staff changes gloves and has separate toasters. However, the gluten free bread is only a pita flat bread, not a traditional sandwich, so get ready for that. Other than that, the grilled cheese was great.
Thank you for your review, I am so glad you enjoyed your grilled cheese. I source my ingredients locally and when I started offering a gluten free option there was no locally made gluten free bread but there was a new startup called “My Bread” here in Chicago. I thought they toasted up nicely and didn’t alter the flavor of my ingredients in each sandwich. They are now located in Racine, WI and can be found in the freezer section of some Mariano’s and Whole Foods. Gayle
