Found a little pasta noodle buried in my gluten free nachos 😕 it could have been a gluten free noodle, but it makes me worried that they’re not being very attentive/careful in general if a pasta noodle could end up buried inside nachos. Like other commenters have said, the owner may really care about being celiac safe, but that doesn’t mean all the staff is careful. If you get really sick from gluten I’d be wary about eating here.
Very knowledgable staff, such a nice experience for those that have celiac, not only not having to ‘explain’ and ask lots of questions, but just the sheer number of choices is very refreshing. The two improvements that would make this nearly perfect … it is too expensive $20 burgers, and the portions are on the small side - which is not a good combination. However, I would recommend and go back
I forgot to rate Georgie’s, I was last here Nov. 2023. Amazing French toast, separate kitchen facilities, delicious coffee—-I could go on. Devastating that I live in Boston and can’t swing by regularly! Found this place when I was starving on a trip to NY in 2022, and was super jazzed to see a breakfast sandwich to go. Great experience 3/3 times I’ve been here.
I would give this place 10 stars if I could! The menu is very clearly marked and the staff is extremely nice & knowledgeable. My son (9yrs old) has Celiac. He always gets fustrated when we go out because it is never clear what he can eat. We always have to ask a lot of questions to determine what is safe for him, and even then he usually only has a few options. Georgie's makes mostly everything on the menu GF and the fryers are dedicated GF. The GF French Toast, GF fries and GF chicken fingers were delicious. The rest of our family (who are not Celiac) also loved their meals. We do not live super close to Georgie's but are already brainstorming reasons that will bring us back to this area soon. We will most definitely be back! Thank you Georgie's for your dedication to the GF community.
We have loved Georgie’s for years. There are so many delicious gluten free items. Also, save room for dessert! Amazing choices from carrot cake, banana cream pie, cannoli….❤
Ate there twice in one weekend. I got eggs Benedict with home fries which was delicious. They came on toast which could have been grilled to soften it up. Second day I got corned beef hash with eggs and fresh fruit- the hash was the best I ever had and the fruit was very fresh. I didn’t gave any symptoms so I’ll be back!
Watched them prepare my GF (indicated Celiac) on the same griddle as the non-GF pancakes. They used the same spatulas to flip the pancakes and my omelet. Let them know that wasn't safe and they said they scraped it clean and used different sections of the griddle. Not safe for Celiac, unfortunately.
The owner & staff are incredibly sensitive to allergen and cross-contamination. The menu is amazing - so many GF options including their bread made of hand-milled grains, onion rings, crab cakes, French toast, bagels. If I lived closer I would be a frequent diner. I can’t wait to go back!
Georgie's Diner is a great stop on your way to IKEA or anywhere else in the New Haven area. The entire menu is labeled very well for gluten, dairy, and more. We've eaten here multiple times over the past 10 years and my son (who has Celiac and is very sensitive to cross-contamination) has enjoyed everything from burgers to pancakes, to fries, onion rings, and milkshakes. Highly recommend!
Everything, everything, EVERYTHING on Georgie’s menu is marked. Our waiter Brian was more than attentive to my dietary restrictions. The owner (?manager) went out of his way and looked up the vodkas to assure it was safe (no Tito’s here). The bartender gives artistic detail to drinks -Paloma- and the cold-pressed bloody mary mix is delightful 🍅 I got the crab benedict and the home fries are sooo good.
I love Georgie’s so much, it’s a perfect diner, it’s one of my favorite places in Central CT, but BE CAREFUL. I am a very sensitive celiac and have been here many times: sometimes I’m completely safe, and other times I can barely make it out the door. Part of the kitchen IS dedicated gf, although many dishes are labeled gluten free that aren’t prepared/cooked in that part of the kitchen, so be sure to talk through what you order with the staff, and be clear with them that it’s an allergy. I can say for certain that at various times I’ve been glutened by the grits and the pancakes; the eggs are all cooked on a shared grill, so stay away from those too. All things considered, I do think it can be celiac friendly if you are clear with the staff and order something simple.
Everything is marked for GF as well as other allergies. Great food. Seem very conscientious about dietary needs.
Amazing food. Lots of gluten free options. I had the Papa's Ziti. The pasta was cooked perfectly and the chicken had a wonderful season to it. I also had a side of grilled zucchini and the gluten-free chocolate cake. I had no adverse reaction. Everything is reasonably priced and Incredibly good.
Came here because of recommendations from family. I’m so glad I went! Although it’s a diner they specialize in fresh food. There are separate cooking areas throughout the diner and a dedicated fryer. All menu items are allergen designated (GF, DF, nut free, soy free, vegan, etc). Waitress was very knowledgeable. Felt very safe eating here. My daughter got the GF breaded chicken pesto sandwich and chicken-rice soup. I got the turkey club and fries. Best sandwich I’ve ever had at a restaurant. Everything was delicious! Many items on dessert menu are GF, too. They also make their own GF bread. Will definitely go back.
They’re amazing, they label their menu with soy, egg dairy, gluten, nuts.. i feel like i’m missing something.. they’re so amazing. I had GF carrot cake, GF mac and cheese and the triple decker blt also GF. I have celiac and didn’t get sick at all after eating any of it. They have so many options it’s amazing, i wish they weren’t so far away from me but maybe it’s a good thing because i’d go every single day if i could.
Have come here 3 times now while passing through the area on the way to NYC and every time it has been amazing! I have eaten their chicken parm & chicken broccoli ziti and both were delicious and I have not gotten sick any of the times I’ve visited. They have a ton of options all marked on the menu, have gf bread and pasta and the food comes out super fast. Would highly recommend if you’re in the area!!
Such an extensive gluten free menu! My son got GF grilled cheese and fries... and an order of buckwheat silver dollar pancakes to go for breakfast the next day. You can check out their gluten free menu online. Things like Gluten free caramel apple french toast, entrees with GF penne or spaghetti squash, a multitude of sandwiches on gluten free bread, an amazing list of GF desserts and the list goes on! When we walked in and saw the tiny grill up front my husband said "How can they make Gluten Free food safely?" Turns out they have a separate grill to make all of the gluten-free items and have a separate fryer for the fries. And you place your order with the owner Georgette. (I spoke to her to ask some questions while we were waiting for a table, and she said ask for her when we were ready to order.) Highly recommend!
I’ve gone here twice. Both times I had a philly cheese steak and soup. First time I was great. Second time they gave me a bun and I knew it wasn’t right. I got take out and took a bite and knew. I went back and ordered another sandwich and it was on sandwich bread. The manager handed it to me... I asked if it was gluten free and she looked. The sandwich bread is gluten free. I watched them cook it... they use the left side of the grill for gf. The woman cooking put a pancake right next to my steak. The guy took over and moved the pancake over to the right but I saw some go in my steak and he didn’t start over. Be careful with this place! I really wanted it to be gluten free. I think the managers are great and want it to be too. Some chefs are good and some not.
The gluten free pasta dishes, GF brownie, and GF cookie we’re all delicious and filling. My husband said his French fries were some of the best he’s ever had. We are just passing through on a road trip, but we’ll be back next time we are in this area!
I have been going to this restaurant for a few years now and haven’t had an issue with their sandwiches or breakfast items. Their menu is huge and there are so many options for a person who is gluten free, however I would now suggest asking questions about how they prepare everything since things haven’t been as consistent. Last night I ordered what was supposed to be a gluten free pasta dish and ended up finding pieces of regular pasta mixed in with the gluten free penne. It turns out that they use the same strainer for all pasta and must not rinse it or check it in between since regular pasta got mixed in. As a person with Celiac this diner was once my favorite place and I felt at ease. Now, I am incredibly disappointed and saddened that I may not be able to trust Georgie’s. Luckily I had throughly checked my dish and found the regular pasta before I ate any thing, otherwise I would have been rather sick for the next week.
HUGE gluten free menu. I had: chicken cutlet sandwich, chips and guacamole, some fries, and even got a berry bar and Twinkie to go! I was amazed by the menu. Non-GF family members had great meals too.
