Used to be one of my faves and always felt safe.
Went today and the menu is no longer marked with GF. I told the server I had celiac and asked what was GF. They told me what was gluten free (which aligned to what was on the old menu). I asked if they could let the kitchen know I had an allergy, they said "what's the name of your allergy again?" That didn't make me feel confident, and when the food came out, it was definetly a different recipe than it used to be. THEN I googled it, and ownership changed.
I had a stomach ache after but don't know if it's post-Christmas-tummy or the food.
Next time I will call first and get more info!
I’ve eaten here twice before. I have been pretty sure I’m asymptomatic but I’m in my first year after diagnosis so it’s hard to say. However, I called the first time and explained that I’m celiac and confirmed that everything was cooked separately and asked about each item I was considering. I then placed an order with veggie pakora. The second time was pretty much the same. I specifically confirmed twice that the veggie pakora was safe and cooked separately and was told I was fine to eat it. Today I went back a third time and ordered the pakora. This server seemed to know a lot more and immediately came back out and said just so you know our pakora is fried in a shared frier. I am grateful he told me but obviously there is a lack of training and knowledge among the staff for me to have been given cross contaminated items twice. I ended up just leaving because I am no longer comfortable eating there. Just be aware that not all staff are properly trained and this may not be the safest option.
I love this place! There is not a lot of gluten on the menu, and the staff is knowledgeable about celiac and cross contact. One time I ordered something online with a note that I was celiac, and I added paneer to my dish. After I ordered, they called to tell me the paneer is fried in a shared fryer so would not be safe for a celiac. I really appreciated their care in catching that! And, the food is soo good- the best Indian food I’ve had in the city.
I called to make sure that my boyfriend with celiac could eat there and the staff was knowledgeable about everything in the dishes and whether they were strictly gluten free or not. I wanted to get pakora for us to eat but the employee told me it was fried in the same fryer as the pakora so we just got entrees!
They have plenty of entrees that are gluten free. My boyfriend and I got channa saag and chyau tarkari and we both preferred the channa saag but it was all delicious.
Wow! absolutely delicious with thought. We will definitely be back. They are very Celiac friendly. This was a great experience!
