Love Grand Hacienda overall. First time at this location. Chips at all locations are not GF as they are fried in shared fryer. Salsa is great! I bring my own chips usually. Taco Tuesday special is GF and have never gotten sick. But I agree that staff is not well versed in knowing GF.
They have gluten free marked on the menu, but don’t seem to be very educated on gluten/celiac at all. I ordered mussels which were marked gluten free AND told the waiter that I had a gluten allergy and to make sure they took precautions & changed gloves, but they came out with two whole pieces of regular bread sitting on top of the bowl. I sent it back and just ate the bean soup (also marked gluten free). So far I feel fine, but I’m not very symptomatic anyway. Def wouldn’t risk going back.
I have been here a few times and have good experiences! Menu is labeled and they can also sub out other menu items. I always get anxious about restaurants where there may be a language barrier so last time I talked to the manager and he ensured to seat us with a waiter that understood celiac and would make sure it was a safe meal. Chips are not GF so I brought my own chips and had an order of queso and salsa to myself to avoid CC.
