Fantastic experience! The menu is not labeled but the employees are all knowledgeable about gluten. Except for the salmon, all the meats are GF. For sides, besides the tater tot casserole, chili, pasta salad & banana pudding, all sides are GF. The corn bread is GF! All BBQ sauces are also GF. As a southerner, this is the best BBQ I’ve found in Chicago. Additionally, they yelled “celiac” and everyone changed their gloves!
10/10 experience. Everyone was beyond helpful and knew what my sister could and could not eat. Some of the sides are not gluten free. Like the chili and a couple other things.
They all changed gloves and even told everyone “celiac” and they all prepared back in the kitchen. Everyone was so well informed and took really good care of us. It was an outstanding meal and we are definitely going to be returning. Everyone should have this high of standards!!!! The meats were amazing and they have gluten free buns. The sandwich was insane and the cornbread was DELICIOUS.
The pulled pork is too notch but their brisket is world class. I manly went to try the gluten free corn bread but there pickled onions really stole the show. Being from an area with out a lot of options I would consider this place amazing and would strongly recommend.
Had the brisket and slaw. Appeared knowledgeable. Careful of cross contamination between the salads. I would go back food was really good.
We’ve eaten here twice with our three children with Celiac Disease, and had a fantastic experience both times. The staff is very knowledgeable and takes precautions to avoid cross contact with gluten. Everything is gluten free except a couple of the sides so you don’t feel like you’re limited to a small menu. All of the food is absolutely incredible. We enjoyed the burgers with gluten free buns, smoked chicken leg, potato salad, cornbread (yes it’s gluten free!), and the brisket was insanely good. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone.
My boyfriend saw it on the list here and wanted to go for his birthday! (I’m celiac but he makes sure Im able to eat there too). When we arrived we asked the guy taking our meat order if they were gluten free and he asked if we had an allergy to which we said I was Celiac. They don’t have a dedicated gluten free menu but we were told majority of the items are gluten free with the exception of some items. He immediately alerted the next station they had a celiac allergy and to change their gloves!! He assured us the only meat that wasn’t gluten free was the salmon. We had brisket sliced and the short ribs. Then for the sides we were told the tater tot casserole was not gluten free so we opted for the potato salad and baked beans. The gentleman checking us out asked if I wanted cornbread because it was gluten free also so they gave us the cornbread on the house!! The food was BEYOND delicious and the cornbread was out of this world! The meat was so good and tasty, the potato salad was more than enough for two people and the beans were so good! Knowing they were knowledgeable about celiac and what items were safe made it such a wonderful experience, we will definitely come back!
Cannot say enough good things about green street! The staff totally understood celiac and made me feel totally normal for asking about gluten free. Can confirm there is a gf bun! They changed gloves and communicated that I had celiac. The food is incredible and so worth the wait. I had the cornbread, a pulled pork sandwich (with coleslaw), potato salad, and beans!
Host informed food handlers re my celiac. Each changed gloves as i ordered. No separate gf menu but each station food handler told me exactly which items were not safe. I had pulled pork on gf roll, broccoli salad & corn dish.
I loved Green Street pre-diagnosis so I was excited to learn that they have GF options. The staff understood my questions right away, told me what I could eat and changed their gloves. I did notice that the macaroni salad, which is not GF, was pretty close to the other sides so there might be some CC risk with the surrounding sides. I didn’t get sick (though I’m not a highly reactive celiac).
Delicious food. Amazing cornbread. Many gf items on menu. I let them know I had an allergy and everyone on the line changed their gloves before handling my food. The line is always long but worth the wait.
Editing my review, I ate here again and got sick. I came at a busier time and the staff was not very happy/didn’t understand why they needed to change their gloves. I ordered the chopped brisket because the guy at the counter had been handling the giant brisket with a potentially contaminated glove. Anyhow, not sure if I’ll go back. And yes, glove singular, he only had one on.

I had the best meal at green street! The staff was very knowledgeable about Celiac disease and when I asked if they could change gloves, they said no problem and everyone in the kitchen changed their gloves instantly without even a question. Most of the menu is gluten free and they even have gluten free corn bread! I ordered the cornbread, pulled pork, chopped brisket and potato salad. All were delicious and I didn’t get sick!
I've wanted to eat here during quarantine but couldn't find any information online so I emailed them! Here is what they said (they responded in <10 mins!):
"All of our menu is gluten free except the sandwiches due to the bun, frito pie, salmon, banana pudding, and macaroni salad. Even our cornbread is gluten free! Let us know if you have any other questions.
Best regards,
Green Street Smoked Meats Leadership "
We ordered online and marked all my items with the note "gluten free handling please!". My partner ordered the pulled pork sandwich (with bun that wasn't gluten free) and it was all packaged separately from my food. Overall, great experience and great food!
Waitress asked if anyone had allergies at the table after ordering
I had the cornbread with honey butter and brisket, both very good! I was shocked when the waitress asked about allergies, I mentioned my celiacs and she said the cornbread is gluten free along with the meat. I was able to have both.
Knowledgeable staff, delicious food. Gf cornbread is amazing!
I eat here once a month or so. They’re all very friendly and knowledgeable about what does and does not have gluten. Never been sick.
One tip: the sides are all together in a shared space so I never get them. The potato salad looks amazing but it’s too close to the pasta salad for me (celiac).
